Conflict Conflict is something that you encounter pretty much every day. It is almost inevitable that you will not encounter conflict as you through your day or doing anything else. There are different ways to confront conflict, and it depends on the type of person that you are. The different ways that people can confront conflict are either head-on or just complete avoidance. When people avoid a conflict, sometimes it tends to work in their favor, but sometimes it does not and the problem just becomes bigger. Also with handling it head-on there are some major problems. It is healthy to have some conflict in a relationship because that is how you get to communicate with another person and can be heard. When you can express yourself, that makes you grow and lets the other person know your side of things and how you can work things out in the future. Violence on the other hand, is something more severe than conflict. When violence comes into play, we need to be careful with the way that one expresses themselves. Because of what I believe and what I practice, I am able step back from a situation and know how to handle most situations. My faith influences the way that I see conflict and violence. As mentioned above, having a set belief about someone or something can influence a lot and lead you to do things that you probably should not be doing. These types of actions are best described as the destructive conflict method talked about in Interpersonal Conflict by William Wilmot and Joyce Hocker. The destructive method is described as a way that conflict ends up in a negative way rather than a positive one. When conflict ends up in a negative way, that usually is not good since that will more than likely mean that the conflict was not
