Expanding College Opportunities A crucial problem that is affecting the growth of the entire generation is the the fact that many of our brightest young adults are unable to attend college, or if they do they cannot take full advantage of the opportunities offered. The basic reasons for this problem is that these underprivileged people were misinformed or not informed at all. The blame is shared by the school guidance counselors, schools and parents, who are failing to properly educate these kids about they are not informed about the financial aid and scholarships and application fee waivers that are easily available. This is a problem because due to lack of sources are not getting college degrees or dropping out of college early and therefore not able to get a decent job. There are several methods that will help help solve this major problem. She was only looking into the local college in Wilmington Del. because the thought of paying the application fee let alone the rest of college was just too much for her and her parents. Luckily for her at the same time the governor, Jack Markell, launched a program called “Getting to Zero” which states that’s its goal is to get all high school seniors, with a SAT score of at least 1500, to enroll in college. In recent years the state data charts show that as many as 20% of such people don’t apply at all! To accomplish this they worked with the College Board to send out informational packets to all 18,000 such seniors.
