The piece of art “The Execution of the Innocent Count” is an example of bystander from art. The painting was created in 1460 by the Dutch artist Dieric Bouts, it shows the beheading of a man in front of a castle. There are many people looking and watching the execution of the man. We see that the man head had been cut off and obviously, the people did not do anything to help him because they are still watching. Pamela Colloff's, "Innocent Man" is a inequitable story about a man named Michael Morton who is imprisoned because they believe he killed his wife. It is injustice for Michael and he is showing his emotions, speech, and actions that he didn't kill his wife. When Michael came back from his work, he saw his wife dead on his bed, he become a suspect with no evidence and sentenced to life in prison. He is the protagonist that waiting to be justice, but the readers need to know that he is innocent or not. Colloff wants to show the readers about Micheal's charactzation by showing his emotions, actions, and personality.

Susan Wallner, a young women who has returned from a concentration camp, goes to her old apartment to find Hans Mertens living there. Hans took up there after returning home from war and finding out his house was destroyed. Hans would not leave, even after Susan returned home. Later on in the film we find out Hans was a former surgeon but can no longer deal with human suffering because of his traumatic experience in war. THe most prominent example of this is the tragic death of Kitty Genovese. In march of 1964 Kitty genovese was murdered in the alley outside of her apartment. That night numerous people reported hearing the desperate cries for help made by Kitty Genovese who was stabbed to death. Her screams ripped through the night and yet people walked idly by her murder. No one intervened and not even a measly phone call to the police was made.

At one time capital punishment was a common worldwide practice, but now it is only used for serious violation of laws in 100 of the world's 180 nations (Haines 3 ). It can be traced back to the earliest forms of civilization. The origins of the movement away from capital punishment are difficult to date precisely. The abolition movement can be heard as early as the religious sermons of the Quakers in the 1640's (Masur 4). In the seventeenth century, the Anglo-American world began to rely less on public executions and more in favor of private punishments. The study argued that researchers have previously neglected the potential benefit of bystanders and thus, the study provided a new horizon by proving reversed bystander effect through experiment.
