2) The site of Tutankhamun's tomb was found in 1922 by Howard Carter and his sponsor Lord Carnarvon which was funding the search. When Carter and his crew were excavating they went back to a line of builders huts carter had previously searched a few seasons earlier. It was there where carter and his crew found a step stone they slowly uncovered more steps leading to the tomb. Once they had discovered a possible tomb Carter immediately sent a telegram to Lord Carnarvon which said, “At last have made wonderful discovery in valley; a magnificent tomb with seals intact; re-covered same for your arrival; congratulations.” within a week Carnarvon came with his crew and they made there way through a corridor that had been previously made by looters. Once they reached the outer plaster of the tomb carter drilled a hole in the left upper hand corner an opening appeared enough for carter to peak inside then some sources suggest (kt1) that he inserted a candle into the hole to see inside and the candle flickered while another states that he lit a match to see if there is oxygen in the tombs. Either way sources agree that hes actions illuminated golden furniture and Carter was stunned, Lord Carnarvon waiting anxiously asked “Can you see anything?” Carter replied with, “Yes, wonderful things.”
3) When Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun they knew it was an enormous task to study and partially excavate the site as it had an immense amount of artefacts and it was littered with limestone debris from the tomb of Ramses that was directly above it and that posed difficulties but it is agreed upon that it was the debris that kept KV62 hidden and intact for so long.

Another problem the site faced in its early day was that when the tomb of the son of rameses was being constructed about 3 centuries later; above the site of KV62 rubble was being dumped in and around the tomb of king tut. And he became one of the least appreciated pharaohs; ironically the young king is now the most recognized and appreciated pharaoh of all.
Another major task for the conservationists and the preservers was that of protecting the site from vandalism by the public, increased humidity in the site due to body heat and erosion/decay of the site because of increased human presence and traffic. Regrettably since the opening of the site for the public in 2007 after being closed for 85 years there has been severe damage by human intervention.
