Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star crossed lovers who unfortunately died, due to the feud between families. This play was originally published in 1597 and is still alive today. Many schools use this play as an opportunity to show students, how old english was written and how far we have come from then. One main conspiracy that people have to this play, is who was actually responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. In this essay I will explain my opinion on who was responsible for their deaths. The three main characters I think were responsible for their deaths are: Friar Lawrence, Nurse, and Shakespeare. Many people question, what character was responsible for Romeo and Juliets death. The first character that comes to my mind …show more content…
After Romeo had fell affectionate for Juliet at the Masquerade party, he longed for her. Once Romeo and Juliet had fallen in love, he was so focused on being with her he didn't realize the effects that were gonna happen. He did not think of their families names and the slight chance they had to be together. He also made their chance of being together even worse after he fought and killed Tybalt. The prince did not want any fighting between the two families so he banished Romeo from Verona. Because Romeo and Juliet were so in love Juliet, could not think of a life without him so she threatened to kill herself “Shall be the label to another deed,Or my true heart with treacherous revolt, Turn to another, this shall slay them both. Therefore out of thy long-experienced time. Act 4 Scene 1” Juliet then went to Friar Lawrence and asked if she could have a sleeping potion that would allow her to fake her death so Romeo would come and save her. After she had drunk the potion her father set up a ceremony for her passing, but Romeo had never gotten the message that said it was fake. So he went and broke up the tomb to see his love “dead” on a bed. He was so heartbroken that he then killed himself to take the anger and hurtfulness away. Juliet wakes up to see her husband on the ground dead and she then kills herself too. This part of the play is where I blame Romeo for his actions. In my opinion I still do not think
Juliet is one of the main people to blame for her and Romeo’s death. In Act 5, Scene 3, Romeo states, “Thy drugs are quick. This with a kiss I die.” This reveals that he killed himself to be with her, not knowing that she was faking her death to avoid marrying Paris. Another reason Juliet is to blame for their death is shown when she says “O, think’st thou we shall ever meet again?”, after Romeo’s banishment showing that she just let him go
While reading Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet” it is easy to see that everybody in the story is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Personally however, I believe that three of the main characters are more at fault then the other characters. First is Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend. Next is Benvolio, nephew of Lord Montague and Romeo’s other friend. Last is Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet Franciscan Priest. In a story of unorthodox love, family feuding, and violence, many are at blame for the deaths.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a very dramatic text, based on two teens falling in love and ends with both characters committing suicide. The friends and family of the two teenagers are to blame for the devastating tragedy. Tybalt (Juliet’s cousin) plays an important role in the text as his aggressive and defensive behaviour contributed to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet (Juliet’s father) is also to blame as he was very selfish and wasn’t supportive of Romeo and Juliet. Lastly, Friar Lawrence played the biggest role in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet as he was sympathetic and impatient with the two of them.
There is a lot of blame to go around in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare but in the end, Friar Laurence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death. He agrees to marry them, which Romeo took as an act of approval for his and Juliet’s relationship. He also mapped out risky plans that he could have taken more caution when executing. Lastly, he was too wrapped up in the fact that their relationship could bring the Montagues and the Capulets together after too many years of conflict to see that the relationship would bring many dangers and that he should have at least attempted to slow it down.
It’s hard to believe that one person can be responsible for the deaths of the two main characters in one of the history’s most famous plays. This is exactly what happened in Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo and Juliet. In this play the person who is trying to help Romeo and Juliet throughout the story is the person that is most responsible for their deaths. That person is Friar Laurence, the man who devised a plan for Romeo and Juliet to converge one last time before Romeo is banished from Verona. His plan goes horribly wrong, causing the deaths of the two lovers. The friar not only made one mistake, but rather three mistakes that led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence is responsible for the tragic outcome of the play because he gave a potion to Juliet to make her act dead, he did not deliver a letter of great significance and importance to Romeo, and he fled when Juliet was in the most danger at the Capulet’s tomb.
Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy, but it did not have to be. Many things could have been done to prevent their deaths. Many characters contributed to their deaths. The sole character that was responsible for their deaths is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of the lovers because he was secretive with their relationship, he was unable communicate effectively, and he had a cowardly persona.
In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, these two protagonists were too blinded by others decisions and love to act with intelligence which ultimately leads to their deaths. These characters lived in a world where their love had to be kept secret or it would have been broken, which is why the characters looked to wiser peers for help. The deep feelings each lover had for one another was influenced by their family and three people who made destructive choices. Which leads the characters being most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths are Friar Lawrence, County Paris, and Lord Capulet

Friar Laurence is usually blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he conspired with them before their deaths.
