In the book entitled The First Days of School: How to be an Effective Teacher, Harry Wong (1998) writes, “An effective teacher manages a classroom; an ineffective teacher disciplines a classroom” (p. 170). The course, EDUC 3302: Motivation and Management provided hands-on, valuable material and methods for classroom management. The Classroom Management Plan (CMP) completed in this course, presented the ability to explore the ideals, theories, and strategies that have been taught. Our classroom, is a small culturally diverse community within our middle school with students who are from all socio-economic statuses, English Language Learners (ELLs) from Mexico and China, a Type 3 Underground gifted student, and those provided with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for various physical and mental disabilities: cystic fibrosis, dysgraphia, severe Attentions Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder (ADHD), and moderate autism spectrum disorder. Our classroom culture opens our minds and our hearts through the many differences and provides us with unique experiences through our wide range of abilities, talents, and languages that challenges us as we encounter them day to day. In reflection, I found that I provided researched practices and differentiated methods to meet the needs of these students in development of my classroom management, specifically in its organization and implementation in CMP Part 2. I also discovered that I provided differentiated strategies toward maintenance of appropriate behavior, management of problematic behavior, creating classroom culture, and development of relationships between students and the student’s families (specifically within CMP Part 5 and our classroom
