Motivational interviewing is a counseling method that helps people decide ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes in a person’s life. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, goal oriented method of communication with particular attention to the language of change. The examples of the lower risk and higher risk from the videos showcased the difference in working with different types of clients. In observing the tow videos on motivational interviewing, it showed by the end of the session, the therapist and client were able to set some goals in place to be aware of the alcohol that they were consuming.
