In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein there are many examples of how Victor gets ill throughout the book. Victor gets ill multiple times and illustrates that something tragic happens as a result of this. The main reason Victor gets sick in the book is that it is a cause of him creating the monster. There are multiple ways Victor is ill throughout the book but the main reasons are the way he views the monster, it symbolizes death in the story, and it is a symbol of escape.

Disgust shows that even though he created the monster and did not create it to look disgusting it terrified Victor in a way that when Victor sees Frankenstein that he the sight causes him to look at something not human that he does not want to be around the monster. “His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriance’s only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes” The monster was considered terrifying to multiple people that he came near that it caused him to be isolated in a cave. Victor gets sick after tragic events because whenever someone close to him or someone that dies that is in his family dies he begins to fall ill. Illness is an example of death because without Victor creating the monster the people would still be alive and he would not feel bad for himself. “Why did I not die? More miserable than man ever was before, why did I not sink into forgetfulness and rest? Death snatches away many blooming children”.
