What is Childhood injustice? Childhood injustice is unfair treatment or a situation in which the rights of a person or a group of people are ignored. There are so many childhood injustices in this world but the most horrific one to me is child abuse. Child abuse is the most horrific childhood injustice because there are so many ways it can happen. Three types of child abuse that stand out the most are physical, sexual, and emotional abuse each having their own ways of hurting people. Hitting, beating, pushing, shoving, shaking, slapping, kicking, pinching, and burning are all examples of physical abuse. Evidence shows that 40% of children who are abused are those with step parents, and 10% of children who are abused have single parents. Stress is a big affect on the parents role in physical abuse, but that should not be taken out on the child. This can lead to a lifetime of bad decisions. Physical abuse can affect a child mentally and physically while impacting choices throughout life. Children who are physically …show more content…
It can lead to antisocial behavior, depression, identity confusion, loss of self esteem and other serious emotional problems. Evidence also shows that sexual abuse can lead to difficulty with intimate relationships later on in life. Nobody should have to go throughout their life living with regret or feeling like it is their fault. Sexual abuse does not have to be from the parents. Sometimes it can be a relative or someone you know. A lot of times kids are too scared to say anything to their parents or think it is their fault, but in a way it is the parents fault. Most parents fail to protect their children from sexual abuse because they may not talk to their children about it or just make up excuses like, “They would speak up if they were being sexually abused,” They just do not know that the child could be scared or
The importance of growing up in today’s society and being educated about sexual abuse is an important aspect of knowledge everyone should have. Many parents also do not recognize the warning signs from their children early on to prevent them from turning into something bigger.
Physical abuse is to cause or inflict physical injury upon the child. This may include, burning, hitting, punching, shaking, kicking, beating, or otherwise harming a child. The parent or caretaker may claim not to have intended to hurt the child, that the injury was an accident. It may have however, been the result of over-disciplines or physical punishment that is inappropriate to the child?s age.
Physical abuse is abuse that causes injury from beating, punching, kicking, etc. Sexual abuse is the mistreatment of a child by molestation, rape, prostitution. Neglect is the failure to take care of a child's needs like food, shelter, education, and love (Jackson and Primavera). While these three types may be different in the form of abuse, they all have very similar negative effects to the child’s well
Physical abuse is a painful, devastating event that occurs on a daily basis. According to the government of Newfoundland and Labrador, physical abuse is “when someone uses a part of their body or an object to control a person’s actions” ("Violence Prevention Initiative- Defining Violence and Abuse"). There are numerous forms of physical force, such as, hitting, strangling, slapping, beating, and kicking. (“What is Child Abuse”). Other types of harm include objects or weapons to injure the child. Most of the time, physical abuse goes undetected because it is hard to distinguish it. Children often get hurt and parents or other adults often make up excuses of what actually happened. Usually no further questions are asked, leaving the child helpless and alone. Following this further comes the point of discovery.
Physical child abuse is defined in various ways. Most people would recognize it as the presence of an injury that the child sustains from someone who is caring for them. The injuries are also referred to as inflicted or nonaccidental injuries. Some common examples of inflicted injury are fractures, burns, bruises, subdural hematoma, head trauma, and shaken baby syndrome. Physical abuse may also be in the form of maltreatment, including hitting with a hand, stick, strap, or other object; punching; kicking; shaking; throwing; burning; stabbing; or choking to the extent that harm results. The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN) estimated that 37% of children with maltreatment injuries developed a disability or special need,
Finding a definition of child physical abuse is controversial, but the signs of a child being abused is straightforward if you know how to read them. For example, Hitting, punching, kicking them, or using objects to injure to abuse them. All those examples are seen in the case of 8- year- old, Gabriel Fernandez after he was brutally abused for eight months.
Child abuse is an issue within society that effects the lives of not only the victims but also the lives of many people in the social order. Child abuse is any mistreatment or neglect of a child that results in non-accidental injury or harm and which cannot be logically explained. There are several forms of abuse and neglect and many state governments have developed their own legal description of what constitutes child maltreatment for the purposes of removing a child and prosecuting a criminal charge. Child abuse consists of different forms of harm including physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect.
Child abuse, while having many different forms and levels of severity, can be basically defined as the maltreatment of a child by a parent or other adult. When one thinks of child abuse, usually the first thing that comes to mind is physical harm, but the issue is actually much more complex. The abuse of a child can also be manifested in verbal and emotional forms, as well as in sexual molestation. All forms of child abuse generally result in similar emotional disorders and behavioral issues, but the major consequences of sexual abuse, such as mental or emotional scarring, promiscuity, and the tendency of former victims to become sexual abusers, cause it to be the most severely damaging form of child abuse.
There are different kinds of physical abuse, not only hitting or beating but also sexual abuse and neglect. Sign of physical abuse are bruises, unexplained sprains and fractures. There are two different types of neglect. There is neglect when one’s parents are incapable of taking care of their children do to their own mental illness. This type of neglect affects how children interact with their parents. If their mother or father suffer from depression it will affect the way, the child learns how to interact with the world they are disconnected because their parents are. Another form of neglect is that the parents are full aware and decided not to take care of their child. This will also make it harder for children to form bounds with other latter on in life. A sign of neglect is poor hygiene, clothing that is dirty or ripped and lack of medical treatment. Then there is sexual abuse, sexual abuse teaches some children that love is associated with physical acts. It also affects the way children trust. Sign of sexual abuse are vaginal infections and wetting or soiling of the
Psychological abuse is not limited to the sexual parts. Being psychologically abused in all forms is dangerous to the victim. A person’s self-worth is questioned, which can lead to suicide. Psychological abuse has lasting side effects that can continue through generations of children. Neglect is a type of abuse that is seen a lot in children.
Children get abused physically. They are hit, torchured, and burned. And the parent or guardian keep this a secret because the child is too scared to tell anyone because he or she thinks they’ll be more abused. Children are treated unfairly when they are abused. As a result the children end up getting beaten for reason that weren’t such a big deal.
The most common types of child abuse are, physical, emotional, sexual, and neglected. Physical abuse is characterized by the hitting, scratching, kicking, biting, slapping, throwing etc. Emotional abuse is the act of putting down a child with hurtful words, calling them names, making them feel worthless in order to create pain for them. Sexual abuse is the act of forcing a child to take part in sexual activities for watching, touching, videos...
Physical abuse is when someone lays their hands on an individual or family member. “Domestic abuse is described as involving the physical violence, sexual, emotional or financial abuse between current or former partners in an intimate relationship” (Bostock, Plumption, and Pratt 95). What the quotes saying is domestic violence doesn’t mean there is just one type of abuse. Several people that have come a crossed my path have dealt with physical abuse. One lady was severely abused that she suffered a severe concussion. “ In addition to the physical injuries already noted, ranging from bruising to death, abused women suffer from health and psychological problems” (Davies 5). People who are abused don’t just suffer from injuries on the outside but also on the inside.
Child abuse is a very serious problem that continues to happen all over the world. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, defines child abuse as a failure to act as a parent or caregiver which results in physical/emotional harm, sexual abuse, and in some cases death. There are many different types of child abuse such as emotional, physical, neglect, and sexual. With each type of abuse there are warning signs you can spot before it is too late. When a child is abused there is a huge possibility that it can cause them to have many long term effects.
The child could experience improper brain development, learning disabilities, blindness, and anxiety. Child abuse is a downhill spiral when it comes to how it effects the family. Not only could a family member be abusing a child, but another family member could lie to save the abuser jail time. This will create an untrustworthy family atmosphere and tear families apart, sometimes for the better. This could be extremely hard on the abused individual and lead them to believe it is their fault and feel guilty for abandoning their family. A community that has child abuse will have long lasting consequences. The community will experience more people using medical services, homelessness, more criminal activities, drug abuse, and loss of community productivity. Child abuse is a perennial problem that no child should ever
