Holistic Health Promotion
The intended approach to the health plan that is being discussed is to offer a holistic plan of health for the older adult. People of any generation tend to relate the words physicians, and medications with the word health. However being healthy is much more than any physician can offer by giving prescription. Holistic health looks at a person’s whole being. So to offer a holistic health plan for the older adult the plan should include physical activity, healthy nutrition and mental health components. The mental health component often times get neglected in today’s society and often health personnel do not remember to include mental health in the planning. The group would has chosen to assist the older adults in their community by finding ways to help them improve their health and or remain healthy. The key to the plan is information, and assistance in finding this information. The hope is to implement this health plan by educating the older adult in what is available to them. The hope is have more health care personnel come on board to assist with this plan as it grow and to share the results with others through correspondence with other health care personnel from other communities. The health care plan would first be promoted in a community building where healthcare classes and physical activities programs can be offered in the same community building. Future plan may involve simply in getting the information related to other programs via flyers and or email correspondence. Surveys will be taken at the beginning of the health care promotion and at least every year to gather information in order to decipher if individuals find the information interesting and useful. Upon completion of the surveys it is the hope to have the nurses who have been involved in assisting with this plan to reconvene and plan together what activities need to be changed and or added to best assist in the quality improvement of this health care …show more content…

Although the primary intention of this plan is to help the older adult who lives in a rural community setting in an individual or sharing setting, this plan could potentially be used in an assisted living and or nursing home setting. For the individual who lives in a nursing home hopefully the food that is being served is prepared by someone who is providing a nutritional food plan. In this setting the nutritional classes may not be necessary, however the other components of this plan would still be very necessary for these individuals. Nursing home residents are sometimes neglected in encouragement for physical activity. Older adults need to be encourage to move and use physical activity as means to continue support their physical mobility but do not always have a healthy perception of physical activity (Janssen & Stube, 2014). The nursing staff may be very busy with the other patients who need their care and not be able to provide the encouragement and or space for the patient who is mobile to participate in physical activities. As with the other examples this plan may also encourage the older adult in the nursing home setting to be more active and social and reap the benefits of a good mental health
