The hit movie Kingdom of Heaven, made in 2005, the film takes you back to 1145-1149 B.C. The movie shows many of the great historical battles of the second crusade, during the 12th century. The movie had an amazing review and a 7.2 out of 10 rating according to IMDb and many other movie review cites. With well known and popular actors, the movie shows many characters that were once well and living during this time. While this is a very entertaining film to watch on when you are looking for a good action packed movie, it is most definitely not the historically correct. There are many event and tools used in the that were false in the actual history. Including relationships, weapons, and even landscape.

The longbow was shown being used in the movie. The movie was based in 1147-1149 B.C. and according to a history.magazine.com article, the longbow was first used by 500AD by the Germans and the Scandinavians. They first played a major role in the battle of Falkirk in 1298. This proves that the longbow could have never even been used during the second crusade. Something that was historically wrong about the bow, was that the arrow could only shoot 250 yards and kill at 100 yards. In the film it shows the longbow killing from a much further distance than it actually was able too. The trebuchet, on the other hand, was used during the time the movie was based in. The reason why it is not correct in movie is due to the way it was used and the amount of damage it caused. In the book written by H.W. Koch titled “Medieval Warfare” states that “It was powerful enough to make much of an masonry until the sixteenth century,” which in the movie, it shows the trebuchet is shown breaking down the kingdom walls in a matter of hours or less. Also the book it explained that it took days for the trebuchet to actually create damage to the building. In the film it shows the fire being thrown with the rock. While this did actually happen in history, for the racks to be throw with fire, they would have had been cover in tar to hold a flame.
