The job of an event planner is complex and multi-faceted. They are faced with managing other vendors, organizing logistics and budgets, event registration, marketing, managing guests, and making sure the overall event goes off seamlessly. In the movies, event planners are running around with giant binders full of loose sheets of paper flying arounda total organized mess. With the technological advances that are developing, the job of an event planner is becoming a little easier, allowing the planner to be more efficient and thorough—although, stress does come with the job description.
As stressful as planning events may be, technology has provided innovative ways to make long and tedious task be complete with just a few clicks. Event planners must have an understanding of what exactly their client is looking for. They need to have a good idea of how to satisfy the client and how to make things happen so that the event runs smoothly and every detail is perfect. Events can range in size and complexity which is why event planners need to be versatile and prepared for whatever the client has in mind for their event. New technology allows the event planner to actually focus on creative ideas and client satisfaction rather than sweating the details and logistics.

Event planners have to make a ton of important decisions when planning a new event. They help by choosing the event venue, creating the food menu, choosing the catering. Besides all these things, they also help with the decoration which includes choosing the flowers, the lightning, the tables the tablecloths, the chinaware, the sound system and much more restricted by a budget. This is a tremendous task
Event planning process is a process that the event planners should follow in order to make the event run smoothly and help to avoid problems that could be occurred in the event. According to Shone and Parry, there are 5 main components of the event planning process, which are objective and getting started, planning (draft outline plan), organizing and preparing the event, implementing and divestment/legacy.
If there is anything I have learned from the research I have done on event planning is that you have
“Sports … events are business investments both for the individual entrepreneur or athletic department that organizes and promotes them.” (Crompton). Due to the fact that there is so much at stake it is important that the event manager be prepared, able, and willing to do a job to the best of his or her ability. An article written by Milena Parent has a timeline which discusses the three stages and key events that were associated the planning of the 1999 Pan American Games. This timeline which stretches from 1987 to 2000 shows that event management is not a one man job but one that involves collaboration and dedicated individuals. The first stage is planning. It is also the longest and is key in determining the events success. There are several different things occurring at this time. For example, Parents timeline states that preparing of the business plan, creation of the organization committee, preparing a business plan, preparing operational plans, due diligence on financial troubles, risk assessments undertaken, and creation of the Chief Operating Officer position among other things were occurring simultaneously. Which is why events are composed of organizing committees which for Pan American Games were led by a board of directors that are in charge of organizing several
Tourism and sport alone, are two of the most thriving leisure activities that people enjoy today. Sport tourism has become it's own specialized market, and together provide the opportunity of major financial growth and sustainability (Gibson, n.d.). Hosting a megaevent, is a key tactic in promoting not only the sport, but the city that it resides in. Both risky and profitable, we will further investigate hosting and its components, as well as, sport tourism as a whole. Sport tourism like any market, continues to change and evolve based on internal and external forces.
In order to plan a successful event there are a lot of things that must be done to make sure that everything runs smoothly, no matter what the event may be. The International Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) Model allows planners to make sure they are getting every detail of their event planned in order to have a successful event whether it be a wedding, fundraiser, concert or business meeting. The EMBOK is important when it comes to creating a framework of the knowledge and processes that are used when planning an event. Events are all different which means they need to be customized to fit their specific goal and expectation.
As the event planner, or the host of the gathering, you should be well-informed in the art of catering enough to help you recognise the right caterers who can make the party successful. However, with the growing numbers of event caterers—from offsite restaurant caterers to full-scale corporate caterers—choosing the right catering company can be perplexing and overwhelming.
Ability to create and track aspects of events/meetings, including speakers, room setup, A/V requirements, food and beverages, locations, registrants and times
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the statement ‘The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development’. The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize and justify the event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event management. Various sectors of the events industry are identified and discussed to support the theoretical discussion on how the events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development.
The rising economic crisis and global terrorism in these years pushes the event organizers to place great emphasis on the health and safety risks at public events in order to avoid unnecessary risks to the public (Inspectorates request more attention for risks at public events, 2016). In general, any labour effort and material carries some unknown risks and potential opportunities which makes the risk management an essential part to the event management to guarantee the success of the event. Thus, this essay aims to identify the risk and risk management means to event and then discuss the importance of risk management process in event management.
The barriers of entry that could possibly affect the market in which my event planning business operates is brand loyalty and economies of scale.

The job of an event planner is much more than hanging up streamers, laying table clothes down and checking the quality of the lights. Event planning requires tedious work and strenuous planning. Also called meeting and convention planners, they do everything involved with making sure these events go as anticipated. This includes, working with the client to choose a fabulous and affordable location, hiring quality caterers, selecting perfect entertainment, and even arranging lodging and transportation for attendees who are visiting from afar (McKay). The goal of an event planner is to make sure the event runs very much as anticipated, which includes multiple plans to combat what-if scenario, because no event will ever run exactly as planned.
The first strength I would bring to the event planning industry is my ability to budget and manage money. With my personal finances, I am very strict about my spending habits, and I am constantly trying to find ways to save money. For example, I spent hours this past weekend researching the best deals on kitchen supplies for my house next fall. I made a spreadsheet of all of my options that fit the perfect balance between price and quality along with dozens of promo codes that could apply, and it quite literally paid off. My ability to organize and manage my own money as well as to save money would be beneficial in the event planning industry. I would be able to offer my clients various options based on a wide variety of different budgets. Prioritizing is key; it is important to determine which areas would be most
Of course the impact depends on the goals, but most of the companies want events to be more than just an advertisement for their brand. If done well, events have the power for creating a powerful and lasting impression of all that the company can deliver. By allowing the people to get experience and interact with the company, product or service while participating in an event, you will be connected to potential buyers.
