It is common to hear that young adults need guidance such as help throughout school, but what is less often heard is about the guidance needed by all humans. This particular guidance is known as ethics which is where the right and wrong of decisions is based upon moral principles. This set of moral principles plays a major role throughout the life of people. Many intellectual figures who has observed the art of being human such as some philosophers, sociologists, psychologists, and more are involved with ethics. Learning from these figures can really help understand the importance of ethics; some will preach the importance of ethics in people individually or in an entire society.
One can say the foundation of business, government, and society is built on morals and ethics. Ethics can be defined as” the process of making moral decisions about individuals and their interactions in society while still attempting to protect the rights and welfare of those same individuals.”(Francis 2010) Morals can be simply described as the principals of right and wrong behavior that are agreed upon by society. Society generally base their morals from teachings originally found in religion. Most religions have different beliefs but luckily societies have similar morals that can often be the same throughout the world. Ethics can play a major role in the workplace integrity.
And what affects ones decision to act ethical or unethical? The answers to these questions will be discussed later. Webster's new world dictionary defines ethics as "the study and standards of conduct and moral judgment" and "the system of morals of a particular religion, group, etc" (1). The understanding of human standards and moral judgment has greatly influenced modern business. Most modern Business' pay careful attention to ethical values and follow an ethical code of conduct.
The building of the team leads to trust, stronger relationship and higher engagement in the business. Servant becomes a behavior rather than a leadership style. When this behavior is showered on your guest or customer it makes them feel important and they will return to business simply based on the experience they received. They develop a trust from a company because of their service, experience, and treatment. When a company treats customer, vendors and each other with fairness it can only increase profit to any business.
Factors such as these needs to be considered when starting up a business because the main aim of having a business is to generate profits and most importantly is to make your business as sustainable as possible. I’m sure no one wants to run a business short term, so therefore Ethical issues like Code of Conduct and whistle blowing to name a few, will be discussed further in detail. What will also be discussed is the role that Corporate Social Responsibility plays in ethical conduct, fair and sustainable business. Ethical behaviour of businesses is observed through them being socially responsible. A successful business becomes a success when it has good leadership.
Excellent customer service promotes customer satisfaction, employee motivation and gives the business a competitive edge among other businesses. (Adam Toporek, 2012). Excellent customer service is about creating a relationship of trust and loyalty with customers that transcends the interaction of the firm. Customers should be an organization’s number one priority. In conclusion, I believe that the board of director’s ways of managing this company is brilliant. They have great technique’s that will continue to carry the company to the top. All of these techniques that Costco uses are the reasoning behind their success. This is why I believe their success will only progress. They are great to their employees, customers and partners and that is why their company will do even better in the future.
There are firms that hire consultants and ethic experts that will teach corporate ethics, so that they can ensure that employees will behave in an ethical manner. We will see that what one culture may consider moral may not be accepted by another country as being moral (Satterlee, 2009). Between cultures, ethical differences can be complex and vast.
