INTRODUCTION Ethical value is defined as a critical analysis of human acts to determine their rightness or wrongness in terms of two major criteria: truth and justice (Mauro et al, 1999). Ethics is often related to morality. Morality is concerned with the norms, values and beliefs embedded in social processes which define right or wrong for an individual or a community (Shaw, 2008). Ethics thus deals with individual character and moral values that govern and limit one’s conduct. It necessary for individuals to live a life with good character and this is could be done only with the help of the ethical values.

OBJECTIVES The objectives of the present study are:
1. To identify the level of ethical value among women teacher trainees in Puducherry.
2. To identify the inter relationship among the five universal ethical values among women teacher trainees.
3. To identify the effect of background variables like locality, stream of study and parental literacy among women teacher trainees.

METHODOLOGY

Research methods Normative survey method is used in the present study to about the ethical value among women teacher trainees at secondary level.

Sample and sampling There are 22 B.Ed colleges in Puducherry and out of which the population of women B.Ed teacher trainees fall around 300 in three colleges. Thus it is found the background variables like locality, stream of study and parental literacy status does not influence the teacher trainees’ ethical value.

IMPLICATIONS
• Knowledge of ethical value of students helps the teacher to understand their level of morality and accordingly education could be imparted.
• Teacher trainees have to be oriented towards the inculcation n of values as they can imbibe and demonstrate it towards their students.
• Ethical training helps to create a moral environment among the college youths which is the need of the hour and thereby by unnecessary hassles and immoral activities in the higher education n could be eradicated.
• Country like India is noted for the ethical value irrespective of the technological and knowledge advancement and so our traditions uprooted knowledge in ethics must be a part of the curriculum at the higher educational
