Through digital media, the world as a whole has become more dependent upon the internet for everyday affairs. Social networking through sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube,has created increased productivity within business corporations, schools, teachers pedagogy, entertainment, college institutions, journalism, and even the everyday internet user. As businesses operate, teachers educate, entertainers entertain, journalist report, and the average everyday user navigate, there are numerous pitfalls that may lead to unwanted issues in the world of digital media. The advancements in technology, propelled by digital media, and launched through the internet, have consumers choosing to exercise unethical practices such as plagiarism, sexting, and cyberbullying. With unlimited access to information while on the internet, students and journalist fail to closely examine material that might appear to be good research for authenticity, and make sure that it 's not the work of someone else. A Survey conducted found that 58 % of high school students, 60% of undergraduates/graduates, and 76 reported cases between 1998-2007 for journalist, had admitted to or was accused of plagiarism. Cyberbullying, allows internet predators to bully, harass and intimidate those who they believe can 't defend themselves. Since the victims of these predators are usually between the ages of 8 to 19, and are usually on sites that are restricted, parents are not informed of the actions of these predators, and it becomes an ethical issue when victims become socially removed from society due to fear. Gossip, drama and possible violence are all revolving around the students and the things they say to each other on and off the internet. But, the students can be friendly, respectful, and make the online student experience a bit better than the usual aggressiveness they might be use to normally. Some of the negative effects of the internet for children are that ,since, children and adolescents are more or less technologically savvy than their parents, they are able to search about just about anything and and talk to just about anyone on the internet, this can lead to some very dangerous situations. If young people have an understanding of how to make good choices on digital media than they are less likely to negatively affect their future college applications and jobs through what they post online. Cyberbullying is a large problem among young people, and this is often because they are able to hide behind a screen while posting anything they want online.
