In recent years, ethical issues in sports have been a major topic for discussion and media coverage. One major sport ethics controversy that occurred in recent years was the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State University. Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant coach under head coach Joe Paterno, had been accused of child molestation in 2009 and ultimately convicted in 2012. The scandal was quite controversial, as a large number of Penn State officials knew what Sandusky was doing, but covered it up nonetheless.
Jerry Sandusky’s coaching career with Penn State lasted from 1966 to 1999. Sandusky started out as a graduate coaching assistant at Penn State during the 1966 season. After having taken 2 other coaching positions in 1967 and 1968, Sandusky returned to Penn State in 1969 as an assistant coach, where he remained until his retirement in 1999. Sandusky spent his entire Penn State career under head coach Joe Paterno ("biography.com").
