To answer the knowledge issues above, this essay will explain what ethical judgments are and why they are made and how they relate to the ways of knowing. Ethical judgments are the thinking about what the overall outcome and possible act of a certain situation might have and then judging what action is the most appropriate by linking it back to ethics. This can link to three ways of knowing, reason, emotion, and sense perception. If one must decide to go forward with a decision, one must reason all the possible outcomes of his decisions and go forward with the one most appropriate, therefore using reasoning. Another way one might ethically judge something is by linking a certain topic to their emotions. The natural sciences have been affected by these ethical judgments in a way that they have been restricted from developing their ideas and theories and have been restricted from certain experiments, and the arts have been affected in a way that their way of expressing emotion has been limited and the spread of knowledge from these artwork have also been limited. However, ethically questionable situations can also influence and inspire artists to create pieces of art. This means that ethical judgments do limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in the natural sciences to a huge extent. However it does not limit the production of knowledge in arts, but rather increase the methods of producing knowledge in the arts.
Ethics is “a branch of philosophy concerned with the study of questions of right and wrong and how we ought to live” (Banks, 2013). Also it involves making moral judgments about what is right and or wrong, good or bad. In the process of everyday life, moral rules are desirable, not because they express absolute truth, but because they are generally reliable guides for normal circumstances. Ethics or moral conduct, are of major importance in the criminal justice field today. If the police force condoned unethical behavior, there would be very little, if any, justice being served. A system of rules and principles helps to guide in making difficult decisions when moral issues arise. Ethics has been shown to be a central component in decisions involving ethical dilemmas. It is “concerned with standards of conduct and with “how I ought to act”, and standards of conduct may vary among different societies” (Banks, 2013). An ethical dilemma arises only when a decision must be made that involves a conflict at the personal, interpersonal, institutional, or societal level or raises issues of moral character. Richard Hare argues that we initially use an intuitive level of moral thinking when we consider ethical dilemma. There are “six steps in analyzing an ethical dilemma and they would be as follow” (NASW, 2014):

Our perception of moral judgments sometimes affects the ways in which knowledge is produced. In these two areas of knowledge, the natural sciences and the arts, the ways of knowing are different as is the nature of the knowledge produced. Likewise, ethical judgments may or may not limit knowledge in these areas but in different ways. Ethical judgments may lead to questioning the means by which some scientific knowledge is produced. Significant, meaningful works of art are produced only when the artist is able to transmit an emotion to the spectator, reader or listener effectively. This is why powerful emotional reactions to a work of art sometimes produce strong and often opposing ethical judgements which can limit the artist’s opportunities to produce knowledge.
People have opinions and ideas when it comes to ethical dilemmas. There are many examples: The debate on abortion, the trolley problem, and moral absolutism, to name just a few. In all of these examples it appears that emotion and feelings will, at some point, override an important ethical decision that needs to be made. An important factor of an ethical dilemma is how and when it might appear. Some dilemma's, like the debate on abortion, can appear in a way that there is time to talk through all options and available ethical concepts. In this type of dilemma it is possible to see how moral rules and ethical theories can be discussed and a decision made through compromise. In contrast, when a situation that poses dire ethical consequences calls for a moral action there must be a solution that is grounded in moral principle and that can be accessed quickly and efficiently producing the most desirable results. The principal that would seem the best candidate in these situations is consequentialism.

People decide whether something is ethical and whether or not it is right or wrong based on these influences. Individuals decide whether something is ethical or unethical based on family influences because people absorb about the ethical status or something family members based on how our families act. Also individuals also conduct their decisions based on peer influences because classmates and friends that surround us, usually impact a person’s believes on what is right or wrong overtime. Furthermore, people also resolve to their decisions on whether something is right or wrong established on past experiences because they predict their benefits on demographics that had happened to them in the past. Additionally, people select some decisions based on religion because a person’s religious beliefs will usually inspire he or she on what is right or wrong. Finally, another way people base their ethical decisions is based on the situations they are in because people sometimes change their beliefs depending on the circumstances they are in.
Ethics plays a very important role in one social system and basically on how the people will make their actions or decide on a particular thing on whether it is the right or the wrong thing. Ethical consideration is very important. It helps a person or a group of person understands whether the actions are right or wrong. Ethics is a very critical factor most especially when considering where the ethical standards are to applied. Aside from it, weighing results of actions or decision is also another major concern because of the fact that a person has critically analyze whose side is needed to satisfied. There are instances that moral obligations are also considered, in which moral is defined as a universal accepted personal human behavior that allows a person to decide whether an action or decision is good or bad.
Making good ethical decisions requires a trained sensitivity to ethical issues and a practiced method for exploring the ethical aspects of a decision and weighing the considerations that should impact our choice of a course of action. Having a method for ethical decision making is absolutely essential. When practiced regularly, the method becomes so familiar that we work through it automatically without consulting the specific steps.
There are no specific ways humans are able to gain knowledge for we as humans develop knowledge through our time of life. Ethics may or may not play a role in limiting the strategies used in the arts and natural sciences to produce the knowledge necessary. In the naturals sciences, we need perception most of all to be able to communicate information. Art is the same, for our perception of a painting is important to process our own information and have different interpretations of it. As an example, the knowledge gained from occurrences such as Adolf Hitler becoming dictator and causing the Holocaust made a positive and negative impact in the world. It could have influenced other dictators to do the same with their people or it could have influenced other countries to prevent such a cause from occurring. Thus, the issue of should we accept ethics for the purpose of producing useful knowledge is arose.

Due to boundaries within the natural sciences and art, it can be said that the production of knowledge is limited when the methods are limited. This ‘production of knowledge’ is gained through experience, practice, and personal involvement. I agree that ethical judgments limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in the arts and natural sciences. Ethical judgments are placed by the audience/society observing, but in the end it is up to the artist/scientist whether or not they will let these judgments keep them from their work.
