Alanis Hakim Mrs. Videtich We The People Paper Civil War One of the most important historical events that happened in the United States was the Civil War. The Civil War began on April 12 1861, when confederate forces in Charleston fired at union forces holding for Sumter. Once Sumter was captured, the union expanded its military power to get the fort, so the war then continued. Lincoln’s election also caused tension between the north and the south. Those who fought in the war, fought to preserve states rights, as well as ending the scourge of slavery. The issues in the civil war were states' rights and slavery. Two major reasons for the war are the states verses federal rights and slavery. Since the revolution started, two arguments happened: the people who argued for greater state rights and those that argued that the federal government needed more control. The first organized government that the US had was after the American Revolution and it was under the articles of confederation. Once problems arose in the US, the weaknesses of the articles of confederation caused the leaders ...
The Civil War, beginning in 1861 and ending in 1865, was a notorious event in American history for many influential reasons. Among them was the war 's conclusive role in determining a united or divided American nation, its efforts to successfully abolish the slavery institution and bring victory to the northern states. This Civil War was first inspired by the unsettling differences that divided the northern and southern states over the power that resided in the hands of the national government to constrain slavery from taking place within the territories. There was only one victor in the Civil War. Due to the lack of resources, plethora of weaknesses, and disorganized leadership the Southern States possessed in comparison to the Northern States,
On April 12, 1861, Abraham Lincoln declared to the South that, the only reason that separate the country is the idea of slavery, if people could solve that problem then there will be no war. Was that the main reason that started the Civil war? or it was just a small goal that hides the real big reason to start the war behind it. Yet, until this day, people are still debating whether slavery is the main reason of the Civil war. However, there are a lot of facts that help to state the fact that slavery was the main reason of the war. These evidences can relate to many things in history, but they all connect to the idea of slavery.
The American Civil War was caused because of the North and South differences in economies, disagreements about abolishing slavery and whether the state or federal government had more power. These three factors played a key role in America's deadliest war. Understanding the causes of the Civil War is important because the war was one of the most important events in our nation's history. After the Civil War all men were truly created equal, it reunited the country as one, and redefined what it meant to be an
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as president of the United States of America, the repercussions of which led to civil war. However it was not only Lincoln’s election that led to civil war but also the slavery debate between the northern and southern states and the state of the economy in the United States. Together with the election of Lincoln these caused a split, both politically and ideologically, between the North and South states which manifested into what is now refereed to as the American Civil War.
There were many problems, events, and situations that led to the Civil War. One of the major reasons for the outbreak of the war was sectionalism. Once the United States was split, many of the country's fundamental issues were disputed, with slavery being at the top of the list. Some of the other major issues in dispute were representation, tariffs, and states' rights. Sectionalism is defined as, the sharp socio-economic differences that divided the Northern and the Southern states in the U.S.
Near the end of the Antebellum Era, tensions and sectionalism increased as the states argued over what was constitutional. The South had later seceded from the United States and had become the Confederacy of America while the North had remained as the Union. The South had fully supported states’ rights while the north had strongly disapproved it. However, westward expansion, southern anger with the abolitionists, and the secession of the South that had destroyed the feeling of unity in the country because of the disagreement over slavery had been the main factors to the cause of the Civil War. Therefore, since slavery was the primary reason for the discontent in the country, it had been the primary cause of the Civil War.
The Civil War was a war fought between the the North and South in 1861. The Civil War happen because of hard tensions between the North and South over whether or not slavery rights follows with them in the new states in the westward expansion. The presidential election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 caused seven Southern states to secede from the Union and form the Confederate States of America, four more states later on joined them. The Civil War had many battles and the South had to go against the North and Confederate States which also made it hard for them. The Civil War ended in the
A sequence of major events such as The Kansas-Nebraska Act, which called for popular sovereignty, and The Nullification Crisis, which rose controversy in southern states regarding their rights, revolved around sectional conflicts dealing with slavery which ultimately led up to the devastating outbreak of the Civil War between the opposing regions of the North and South. Although slavery did play a major role in causing the Civil War, other causes include economic differences, constitutional disputes, and political blunders along with extremism. The Civil War was an avoidable conflict between the North and South. The Civil War was not inevitable because of failures of leadership in the North and South and extremism on both sides.
The main problem in every event leading up to the Civil War involved the issue of slavery, making slavery the main cause of the war. The initial blame for the war can be pointed at America’s founding fathers who knew slavery violated every aspect of America’s liberty, but yet they still did not prohibit slavery. If it was not the election of President Lincoln that caused South Carolina to secede from the Union, allowing other states to follow, a different event would have triggered the war, making the Civil War inevitable. All in all, the Civil War was bound to happen and it became the bloodiest war in American history.
Gun shots could be heard from where I stood looking down upon the scene unfolding in front of my eyes. I shook my head in disbelief. Civil war was an evil thing. How could friends, neighbors, even family fight against each other just because they disagreed. Don’t they realize they are undoing all that was done when the Revolution was fought? We are to be the United States of America not the Confederate States and The Union States. Although the Civil War was fought to hold the United States together the Revolutionary war is more important because it was what made the United States what it is today.
Add in the fact that the neighboring countries are starting to threaten war on us because of slave dealers invading and kidnaping their people; along with the ever present threat of our own civil war; it makes me wonder if it is worth trying to keep this country going, and not just pardon it off to other countries. highly doubt that any one will want to take us though; with the amount of work and money they would need to put into us so that we would be fully incorporated into their own country.

The American Civil War, also known as the War Between the States, or simply the Civil War in the United States, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865, after seven Southern slave states declared their secession and formed the Confederate States of America . After four years of bloody combat that left over 600,000 soldiers dead and destroyed much of the South's infrastructure, the Confederacy collapsed, slavery was abolished, and the difficult Reconstruction process of restoring national unity and guaranteeing rights to the freed slaves began.
