“Taxation without Representation”
In years following the French and Indian war, the British Government sought ways to alleviate financial debt and burden from this event. Unfortunately, the colonists were taxed and treated unfairly throughout British ruling causing a rebellion against the mother land and its totalitarian power. The following events such as The Sugar Act , The Quartering Act ,The Stamp Act, The Townshend Acts, The Tea Acts including The Boston Massacre were a few of the reasons why the colonies rebelled against Britain. The Boston Tea Party was another event that would change American history forever and push towards a revolution which united colonists more than ever before. The Colonists were conceded fewer rights than British citizens and had no representation in Parliament whatsoever. Without fair representation Colonists owe the Crown exactly nothing. Therefore, the Crown’s attempt to tax tea spurred action and laid groundwork for the Boston Tea Party .
Before looking further into what led the Boston Tea Party to occur, it’s important to examine what it was and how such great tensions between American Colonists and the British government developed. People that lived in the thirteen colonies did not have direct representation in British Parliament . Without that representation, the Government was free to tax Colonists in any way or amount. Many Colonists lived in fear of their property rights, and freedom being taken away from them. Protesting only led to more modified or repealed laws and growing tensions throughout the colonies, particularly in Boston. Since tea was a staple of colonial life, taxes led to smuggling of cheaper, non-British tea and boycotts of British tea.

The Boston Tea Party may not have yielded immediate results, but it fueled the fire of patriotism in the Americans. It gave Colonists motivation to stand up for their rights and to risk their lives by going to war for their independence. The Boston Tea Party is also important for its inspiration, not only to Americans but to others against injustice around the world, importance of the Boston Tea
Party is undeniable. The colonists may not have had a reason to go to war if it had not been for the Parliament’s taxes. It was the resulting war that ultimately gave us all the freedoms that are cherished today. The Boston Tea Party was the beginning of a revolution where Americans would come out victorious and independent of British rule.
