Advancements in technology only make our employment rate suffer and affects those in the workforce. The effect of this technology in factories are called technical shock. This is where there is a large spike in production in manufacturing factories due to new equipment and tools. The spikes are nothing new and have been happening for many years. Fabio Canova is an economics professor from European University Institute. He says that shocks explain a lot about the economy and why jobs are becoming harder to find. The middle class is slowly evaporating which allows only a two tier system where only one side thrives. Technology is the “next big thing” for the world and it hasn’t been better in our time at a consumer level. Most of the highly trained professionals—scientists, enthusiasts, and engineers—believe that computers are only at the beginning of their existence. Even at the beginning of their time, technology and robotics are injuring our economy to the point where many laborers may not be able to hold the same job again. It is up to us to take control of the situation and help the next generation. The major computer companies need to help teach citizens how to use computers efficiently, so they do not fall behind the digital line. Schools at the high school level and lower must require classes in computers to help them in the long run in our ever-growing knowledge-based society. Lastly, having events like hackathons would help push children and others to test out technology outside of their normal activities and get real hands-on experiences with them. It is up to us as Americans to push these demands to protect our future leaders and children successfully for years to
