,The book I read was Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. This story takes place in different locations of Mica, Arizona. Most of the story takes place in Mica Area High School also called MAHS. This is the high school that the most of the main characters go to. Another location is Archie's house. A old house that is turned in to school on Saturday. His house is covered in bones. It also takes place in various locations when they are surprising someone. They take flowers to someone who is sick. If someone accomplishes something they might get a CONGRATULATION balloon on their door step. The final location is the set of the "Hot Seat". The "Hot Seat" is a show they do at MAHS. They interview students, then it gets posted on t.v..
There are many characters in this story but there are a few main characters. First is Stargirl, she is the new girl at MAHS. She is the girl who changes everything. She wears crazy clothes; she has a rat for a pet. Stargirl plays the ukulele and she's kind to everyone. She encourages people to be themselves. The next character is Leo the producer/director of the "Hot Seat". Leo is a boy who likes to blend in to not be noticed. He's learning not to care what others think. He becomes friends with Stargirl. The final character is Archie, a retired school teacher, who still teaches every Saturday morning.

She's new she's different she's energetic and the students love her. Stargirl gets invited to be cheerleader the other cheerleaders think shell be great since she is so peppy. Then she starts cheering for the other teams at first they think its ok she's just being Stargirl. Then she keeps doing it they get annoyed at her.stargirl becomes friends with a boy named Leo. Stargirl was not like everyone else in Mica High. She was a unique individual with no restrictions to her own identity. But when Leo stressed the fact that she was so different, she undertook the task to change herself, for Leo’s sake. Even though Leo was euphoric with the new Susan Caraway, her shunning was not ebbed. The change did nothing for stargirl but cripple her jovial personality. Stargirl shouldn’t have changed herself for someone else’s motive, but should’ve kept herself the way she was, as your own happiness should be put before others, and there’s always someone that stays by your side no matter the notions made of you.
No one would talk to her, recess was spent in anguish, and she would find garbage and spoiled food in her book bag. As she progressed into 5th grade, some of the social atmosphere began to shift in subtle but profound ways. Being accepted into a clique is all that matters. The main character of this book is Susan Caraway, but everyone knows her as Stargirl. Stargirl is about 16 years old. She is in 10th grade. Her hair is the color of sand and falls to her shoulders. A “sprinkle” of freckles crosses her nose. Mostly, she looked like a hundred other girls in school, except for two things. She didn’t wear makeup and her eyes were bigger than anyone else’s in the school. Also, she wore outrageous clothes. Normal for her was a long floor-brushing pioneer dress or skirt. Stargirl is definitely different. She’s a fun loving, free-spirited girl who no one had ever met before. She was the friendliest person in school. She loves all people, even people who don’t play for her school’s team. She doesn’t care what others think about her clothes or how she acts. The lesson that Stargirl learned was that you can’t change who you are. If you change for someone else, you will only make yourself miserable. She also learned that the people who really care about you will like you for who you are. The people who truly love you won’t ask you to change who you are.

The various clans of students help present the theme by showing us that there are many different types of people. The popular cheerleaders, the jocks, the geeks and those who are just trying to fit in. Melinda transforming the janitor’s closet symbolizes her hiding her feelings and Melinda’s inability to speak and tell people what happened to her. High school can be fun but unfortunately through the eyes of Melinda it was a very hard time.
She saw that everyone knew each other and she felt left out, she didn’t want to talk to no one because she knew her Spanish was bad and felt like they might make fun of her. The teacher came in and made everyone present themselves and Leah was the first one the teacher asked to say their name, what school they came from, and what is their favorite hobby. We don't see many people in the world who express individuality. However, we see popularity and amount of followers we have on our Instagram to represent our reputation in the public. In the novel, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, we can see that individuality can still be expressed even if the whole school despises you. The main character, Stargirl, demonstrates how to be yourself and how it's better to be yourself than to become someone else.
Rachel was Melinda's friend all of middle school but she turned out to be a complete jerk to Melinda. Heather was a fake friend who only stuck by her side until she was accepted in a ¨cool¨ group. David Petrakis is a nerd who is almost in every one of Melinda's classes. They grow close mostly because they both have no friends, but he is a true friend. Towards the end of the group Melinda starts to come out to Rachel about why she called the police, but Rachel just got even more upset. The first day of school started and Kandy was in 10th grade. Her new clothes got her a lot of attention, everyone complimented her about how they loved what she was wearing. That was the only thing she was confident about, her clothes. She knew that her style was awesome. Her best friend, Ang, was in two of her classes. Kandy thought that this would be the best year of school because she never had any friends in any of her classes before. Turns out they both had the same lunch. They would talk up by the road, on the sidewalk, to Speedway everyday for lunch. For some reason people would always honk at them and one day a girl yelled out the window and called them sluts. The movie is based on a true story of Apartheid, Violence and hate that was going on in South Africa. The main actor Khumalo who is acting as Sarafina is a smart, bright and young courageous student who is fighting against racism in South Africa. Her mother lives in Johannesburg where she worked as Nanny in white family home and Sarafina was not happy about it and was always angry every time she visits her mum. She quoted in movie telling her mum “I will kill them all” these sounds like she was bitter of how her mum was been treated there. Sarafina is inspired by her teacher (Whoopi Goldberg) acting as Mary Masembuko who encouraged her to dream of better future. Sarafina was very close to her teacher and always paid her visit at her house and one day the teacher showed her where she kept the gun. Sarafina always dreamt of the day Nelson Mandela will be realized from Jail. Her and other student had composed a song on his freedom. The song of freedom is a song of rebellion against injustice. All student believed in liberation in the country.
