Introduction

Socialization is a process that children and adult acquire from others, like culture. Society always thinks that socialization is part of nature, but it is wrong. Actually, it is a matter of nurture. People develop themselves during their lifetime in which is a social learning process. Early childhood is the most important period in socialization since it is the first time for children to learn knowledge from our culture. In the twenty and twenty-first centuries, our culture and daily lives by the mass media. In this new atmosphere, television (TV), computer network, movies, that kinds of media have become the central roles in children’s daily life. Media has become one of the important ways for us to obtain information. These programs usually involve violent and sexual element. “The study has shown that more than 60% of programs contain some violence, and about 40%f those contain heavy violence. “(1) For example, Master of play (心戰) and when heaven burns (天與地) from TVB. It has a destructive effect on the audience, especially on children’s growth behavior.

TV is a medium of socialization that delivering impersonal communication to audience. Nowadays, many children encounter into the world of TV very early. They spent quite a lot of time on TV per day and the average viewing is increasing every year, especially children who age from4 to 9-year-old. It shows that TV being part of the activity in their life. Children spent an average of between 3 and 4 hours per day viewing television. Apart form that, school can enlarge children’s social network to meet different people. Kids tend to learn from teacher and play with a group, they will communicate and build up confidence through the interaction with others.

Conclusion

In my opinion, televisions own a vital role in socialization process. From the data, it appeals TV can affect children directly since they are still undergrowth. Also, they may have a long-term influence from different variety of programs. Though violent and sexual shows will affect viewers, I do not reckon that it plays the same extent to everyone. It is because there have other reasons, which may affect one’s socialization process, like parents and school that I mentioned before.
