Introduction
Socialization is a process that children and adult acquire from others, like culture. Society always thinks that socialization is part of nature, but it is wrong. Actually, it is a matter of nurture. People develop themselves during their lifetime in which is a social learning process. Early childhood is the most important period in socialization since it is the first time for children to learn knowledge from our culture. In the twenty and twenty-first centuries, our culture and daily lives by the mass media. In this new atmosphere, television (TV), computer network, movies, that kinds of media have become the central roles in children’s daily life. Media has become one of the important ways for us to obtain information. These programs usually involve violent and sexual element. “The study has shown that more than 60% of programs contain some violence, and about 40%f those contain heavy violence. “(1) For example, Master of play (心戰) and when heaven burns (天與地) from TVB. TV is a medium of socialization that delivering impersonal communication to audience. Nowadays, many children encounter into the world of TV very early. They spent quite a lot of time on TV per day and the average viewing is increasing every year, especially children who age from4 to 9-year-old. Apart form that, school can enlarge children’s social network to meet different people. Kids tend to learn from teacher and play with a group, they will communicate and build up confidence through the interaction with others.
Conclusion
In my opinion, televisions own a vital role in socialization process. From the data, it appeals TV can affect children directly since they are still undergrowth. Also, they may have a long-term influence from different variety of programs. Though violent and sexual shows will affect viewers, I do not reckon that it plays the same extent to everyone. It is because there have other reasons, which may affect one’s socialization process, like parents and school that I mentioned before.
At the present time violence in mass media is appearing frequently in our lives. We are surrounded with it. It encompasses television, film, videogames, internet and music. This has been a controversial issue in America. In this article the author speaks about how violence in mass media effects children. This author also emphasized how violence increases high school shootings, censorship and to restrict content to remove violence in media.
It may be hard to admit, but television has become an intricate part of our everyday lives. People children often find themselves sitting in front of the television screen for a longer period of time than before and this has evolved immensely over the past few years. In this article, “The Trouble with Television,” by the author Marie Winn, mentions that addiction of television is negative effects on children and families. It keeps the families from doing other things and it’s a hidden competitor for all other activities. Television takes place of play and on top of that kids who watch a lot of television grow uncivilized. Also, the author mentioned that televisions are less resourceful for children and have negative effects on children’s school achievement and on physical fitness. Although there are so many other types of addictions but the author Marie Winn’s points of argument of watching television is a serious addiction that our children and families have negative effects.
There is no denying the fact that media influences society daily and can take a negative affect on society. It is necessary to enforce standards in order to reduce the baring of violence through the media to children. Including, but not limited to supporting parents to oversee the children’s media viewing and encouraging children to ask questions about the media and not to follow the behavior of certain characters. Society needs to stop supporting the media and request them to cut down the violence and sex in the programming.

Television plays a major positive part in children's daily activities. Children need this type of learning experience along with the basic reading, writing, and arithmetic. Television is not only good for their education but also for their imagination. Children need to learn at an early age that anything and everything is possible.
Without a doubt, television is the central and principal form of communication in many people’s lives. This form is most often exposed to a child who instantly becomes accustomed to its presence. Television has played an important role in many children’s lives and its viewing has been a favorite activity for many of them. The effects of television on children have been disputed. There are many facts that show how children are affected by television. The most obvious is the effects that television has on the brain. School makes you do this, but television does not. Michael and Sheila Cole, sociologist, say that 'Children socialized to learn from television had lower than normal expectations about the amount of mental effort required to learn from written texts, and tended to read less and perform relatively poorly in school.';(Development of Children 24) Which means that it takes very little effort to follow a television show and kids are raised on television believe that it takes less effort to learn from television rather than books because they have been 'spoon-fed'; information by television. Socialization is a never ending process that continues to change our perspectives to help us learn and adapt to a social reality. This lifelo.ng process can be split up into two different parts; primary socialization, the first socialization an individual undergoes in childhood, and secondary socialization, when an individual adapts to a specific group within society. Although one may believe that secondary socialization has more power over primary socialization since it is current and therefore more relevant, primary socialization has more authority considering that it lays down the foundation for all future socializations. Our initial values, attitudes, and actions are more important since we internalize them
acceptable or "normal" behaviour. The Socialisation process continues throughout life and has many agents of socialisation. The first agents we usually encounter are our families. Television violence causes destructive behavior in children, however; television can be a powerful influence to young viewers in our society. Unfortunately, much of today's television programming are very violent. Many researchers like scientists, pediatricians, and child researchers in many countries have studied to find out what it is about television violence that makes it such a big affect on the way kids act and behave. Socialization is learning what is expected from us by the people we are interacting with. We learn what is considered normal and how to interact with others.
