Renal failure is the disease in which functions of kidney get affected. Kidney is responsible for eliminating waste products from blood. Regulation of blood pressure, production of red blood cells and maintenance of electrolyte balance are other functions performed by kidney. Failure of kidney disrupts these functions. Conditions of kidney failure that may cause further damage can be prevented with various treatment options. If treatment of diseases like diabetes and hypertension is not done well, it can lead to further kidney damage. Kidney dialysis is of two types; hemo dialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Hemo Dialysis

Hemo dialysis may be performed at dialysis center or at home. In this treatment, patient is connected with dialysis machine using tubes. This treatment method helps in the filtration of blood and to cure symptoms of diseases. It is done for 3 to 4 hours and three times on a weekly basis. Taking proper diet after dialysis can be helpful.

Peritoneal Dialysis

In this treatment, peritoneal membrane is placed in the abdomen permanently. This peritoneal membrane is used to filter the blood. In the treatment, fluid, called as dialysate, is infused in the abdominal cavity and the fluid waste is drained out afterwards. 4 to 5 such exchanges can be done on a daily basis.
