There are many different jobs and duties required of a Registered Nurse (RN). The job duties include the main focal points of the job, such as administering medicines and treatments to patients; monitor the medical equipment, and even teaching the patient and the patient’s families on how to manage illnesses and injuries. These are just a few of the many duties that a nurse must perform daily while on the job. A nurse isn’t just handed a list that covers all of their duties for every job. A nurse’s titles and duties often depend on where they work and the patients they work with. Some registered nurses such as pediatric nurses work with children and teens or trauma nurses which work in stand-alone emergency departments or in a hospital are some examples of how where they work affects what they do. Some nurses will work in high pressure situations, such as the trauma nurse, and others may work in low pressure more lax environments, such as a school nurse. When going into the nursing profession it is not just for the benefits or for the group of people of which you will be associated with. It is more than for the pay, it is for the genuine love of helping people and sometimes when loving to help people you are willing to go above and beyond to assist someone to the best of your ability. Sometimes one is so willing to go above and beyond to help someone that they may breach their scope of practice. You may ask yourself what is “Scope of Practice”? Scope of Practice is a term that is used by national/state/provincial licensing boards for many professions that defines’ what the procedures, process, and actions that are allowed for the person with the license (Wikipedia, 2014, Scope of Practice, para 1). In conclusion, being a nurse take a lot of responsibility, there’s so much you can be held accountable for. But, nothing is more rewarding than knowing that you are making a difference, not just to one person, but to the community as a whole. When saving someone’s life, you are not merely saving the heartbeat of one person, but you are saving the hearts and souls to their loved ones. To me, that is just a wonderful thought, knowing that I have the power not just to be able to help a patient, but to be able to help a patient’s family.

On November 17th, 2015 I had an observation clinical shadowing a Registered Nurse in Case Management. Case management is a side of nursing that is not brought up very often. We started off the shift in the nurse’s office. Morgan, the nurse, had a meeting to attend at 9:00am, so we stayed in her office to get organized for the day.
The patients then start to think about Nurse Ratched's cruel power rule. Scanlon questions the closure of the dorm room. Cheswick asks for cigarettes. Ratched's aggressive behavior proposes him to lose his control and he is given electroshock treatment. Mac tries to overcome the barriers imposed by the Nurse. Cigarettes in the movie represent freedom. Cigarettes furnish the men, giving them the energy to speak to opportunity and feel like men rather than kids. Cheswick requests to know why she has seized his cigarettes. Instead of answering her question she accuses McMurphy of running a club and tries to win the money of the patients.
Advanced practice registered nurses play a significant part in extending access to health care by providing primary care and specialty care services to clients. Advanced practices registered are mentors, educators, researchers, and administrators. According to Health Resources and Services Administration, “Ninety-six percent of the NP workforce reported being in clinical practice, providing direct patient care” (Health Resources and Services Administration 2016). Furthermore, “Nearly three percentages were in faculty positions and approximately one percent was in administrative positions”(Health Resources and Services Administration 2016).
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.

I want to be a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. I have always been fascinated with the medical field and see a bright future in it for me. I have the opportunity of meeting new people every day with a variety of personalities. There is always something new to discover in this field. A nurse practitioner's job is to be able to diagnose and treat illnesses. They also prescribe medicine and run physical exams. I am highly interested in pursuing the career of a nurse practitioner because the healthcare field is always in need for medical professionals, it pays well, and I am helping people at the same time.
Caring for people is a prerequisite for becoming a nurse. This can often be effortless and second nature but then there are other times where caring for someone is not always the easiest thing to do. You see it in the frustrated mom of the two-year-old who is throwing a temper tantrum in Target. Or the nurse of a patient who presses his call light frequently for seemingly insignificant things. Caring takes patience. With nursing, in particular, you need to feel called to the profession. You need to feel as though nursing is something you desperately have to do. As if you would be disobeying or cheating if you did not become a nurse. This calling can come from many different places or people, but for me, it comes from the Holy Spirit. The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
