In an effort to formulate the most appropriate decision making process it is important to examine the four different models available to the decision maker. Rational, bounded rationality, Intuitive and creative decision making are all effective paths toward achieving resolution and can be executed by different leadership styles. Looking at the problem facing the email blast procedure at Vail Health Foundation, rationality as a decision making model will garner the most effective results considering all the variables involved. To best examine the effectiveness of such a model it important to analyze the rational decision making approach.

Leaders facing decision making with there is a small amount of pertinent criteria are wise to use bounded rationality decision making. In a situation such as this, the outcome is not a driving force and leaders are not willing or able to invest a great deal of time with regard to this method of decision making.
3.) Intuitive. Perhaps the most comfortable and familiar approach to leadership with regard to decision making is the intuitive model. Leaders draw on past experiences as a guide for what is and isn’t effective problem solving. Goals and outcome of such an issue aren’t a primary factor and have a tendency to be vague. Time is of the essence in a problem solving situation when choosing to apply the intuitive approach and lengthy criteria analysis is not an option.
4.) Creative. Using the creative approach to problem solving, leaders are more apt to explore alternative courses of action through the engagement in the problem itself. Clear paths to a solution do not present in such an approach and leaders experience a change of perspective with regard to solutions. Time is in abundance in this approach which is helpful in deep analysis and

Time not being in abundance, the rational approach allows the opportunity to make a strong judgment call regarding the problem while not involving an additional amount of pertinent criteria or research. Following the steps below will ensure that the best alternative is chose when using the rational decision making approach:
1.)Identification of the issue. Vail Health Foundation has an issue with regard to its email blast process. Fifty high level donors were sent the email in error. Focusing on the issue at hand, it is evident the process is not thoroughly hashed out as such an error occurred.
2.)Identify the best decision making model. To identify the most appropriate approach to solving the issue facing Vail Health it is important to identify the factors surrounding the issue to include the time available, the importance of the desired outcome and the alternatives
The rational decision theory is a method for thoroughly selecting among possible choices that are built on reasoning and facts. With a decision, making process one may employ a series of logical steps to overview relevant facts, observations, and potential outcomes before choosing a specific course of action.
In order to address the above components, five decision making steps have to be put in place, these are; being attentive, being intelligent, being reasonable, being responsible, and being reflective. The first step, being attentive, involves evaluating the whole situation and coming up with the data and information about the problem at hand. In so doing the following questions are viewed; what facts to bear in mind, what direction to take so as to get the expected solution, and what is the main issue to work on. In the second step, being intelligent, the information is clearly studied to determine whether the collected data is revealing the correct details concerning the problem. Determine the stakeholde...
The first example that involves using the rational choice perspective is when Laura decides to move back home to El Paso with the children. She based her decision on her own personal goals and values. She feels as though she belongs to the community in El Paso and that is where her family is. She did not want her children to forget about the Mexican American heritage they are a part of. Laura’s goal in this decision is to make a better life for herself and her children.
Negotiations and decisions are a part of everyday business. In order to make a successful decision, it is necessary to understand how to make rational and sound decisions. Decisions that are rash, made on snap judgments, and past experiences can prove detrimental to a business. A deficit in basic thinking and decision making is felt at all levels of an organization (Gary, 1997). Decisions can have long term and short term impacts on organizations and their world in which they exist (Turner & Dean, 2008). In order to understand the process of making a sound and good decision, it is necessary to define and understand several decision-making models. These models help to make clear the issues to be addressed and the goals that need to be obtained before a final decision is made. This paper will discuss the zero sum game, win-win, satisfying solutions, and the fixed pie models.
Secondly, a leader should learn how to make a good decision. It is better to make good decision rattan than a fast decision. There are few issues that should be considered in order to avoid making a bad decision. Before the decision was made, they should collect information and data first, and identifies the relevant sources. Second, compare each of the decision and also have to measures the levels of profitability and losses that might incurs to the organization.
This is because, all employees in management will have to be taught on the most effective decision making models. Once a mastery of the models has been achieved and a particular model settled for, the management can be allowed to gradually apply the model in day to day decision making. The approach will begin with small decisions to monitor its effectiveness and afterwards, more significant decisions will be subjected to the model that has been agreed upon. Teaching the skill of integrative decision making makes each associate to feel appreciated as their opinion and suggestions are valued thus the employees feel part and parcel of the organization. The implementation of decisions becomes more feasible as decisions are not imposed rather, they are deliberated upon in a consultative
Life is full of decisions. Some decisions are trivial. Should I choose paper or plastic at the grocery store? Which of the 31 flavors of ice cream should I pick? Other decisions are vital. Should I get married to her or should I take this new job? Your decisions may affect many people or only yourself. In this paper I will present a decision-making model. I will describe a decision that I made at work using this model and how critical thinking impacted that decision.
First step in decision making process is identifying the problems. As McShane and Von Glinow (2000) stated, a problem can be defined as abnormality in present and preferred situation that happen in an organization. The actual process of decision making starts from problem identification. Questions should be asked in order to find a best solution (Prasad, 2008). If there is an inconsistency between the objectives and real situation, there will a need for action. Reliable information is very crucial in this step whereas wrong information will lead to unnecessary decisions in an organization as stated by Griffin and Moorhead (2010). For an example, the organization members should consider doing a need analysis to identify the difference between desired and actual achievements according to their current situation. When a manager diagnose and analyze the problems carefully, a problem can be identified obviously. When individual or the organization make a decision, there is important to take note more irretrievable the solution once appliance; they more concern about the real decision. In addition, the company more do analytical t...
(2015) discuss three different perspectives that can be utilized to analyze a problem: “(1) the rational model, (2) the organizational process model, and (3) the…collaborative model” (p. 244). The decision model utilized by decision makers will greatly influence how a problem is perceived and interpreted (Nahavandi et al., 2015). Therefore, it is critical that managers are aware of how the lens of the decision making model will influence the outcome of the decision making process. When utilizing the rational model of decision making the “phases for decision making are performed deliberately and consciously, relying on the rationality of the decision maker’s thoughts and behaviors” (Nahavandi et al., 2015, p. 244). This decision model assumes that the individuals making decision behave in a rational manner when making decisions or taking other actions (Nahavandi et al., 2015). In the context of decision making, Nahavandi et al., state that “to behave rationally is generally understood to mean that people to try to maximize the value they receive in any situation” (2015, p. 244). Given the nature of the problem facing BSE Veterinary Services the rational model would provide the best framework for making this
This is one of the types of thinking styles. Creative thinking involves creating something new or original. It involves the skills of flexibility, originality, fluency, elaboration, brainstorming, modification, imagery, associative thinking, attribute listing, metaphorical thinking, and forced relationships. The aim of creative thinking is to stimulate curiosity and promote divergence. When an individual learns to expand their way of thinking to incorporate metaphorical ideas, they will spark the creative thinking process...
Thinking critically and making decisions are important parts of today’s business environment. It is important to understand how the decision making process works and the steps involved. The nine steps of the decision making process are: identifying the problem, defining criteria, setting goals and objectives, evaluating the effect of the problem, identifying the causes of the problem, framing alternatives, evaluating impacts of the alternatives, making the decision, implementing the decision, and measuring the impacts. (Decision, 2007.) By using various methods and tools to assist in making important business decisions an individual can ensure the decisions they make will be as successful as possible. In this paper it will be examined how the decision making process can be followed using various tools and techniques to make successful business decisions by using these same tools and techniques during a thinking critically business scenario. The paper will also discuss how different tools and techniques could have been used to make different, yet still successful decisions.
Decision making is the process of considering alternatives and choosing among them. Some Psychologists and Scientists who study Decision making states that humans make decisions by thoroughly examine all alternatives and then choose the one that will be most beneficial to them. In 1956 Herbert Simon introduced the notion of bounded rationality. Bounded rationality means that boundaries, or limitations, around the decision making process prevent it from being logical. More often we base our decisions on strategies and educated guesses (Wood, Wood, Boyd 2013).
This paper will focus on the Rational Model for decision-making. The first section will describe the Rational Model for decision-making. It will identify all the steps of the Rational Model and what they entail. The second section will detail a recent job-related issue I was involved with. I will discuss the issue and show how the Rational Model of decision-making was effectively utilized to reach a decision.
Making decisions is an important part of our everyday life. Decisions define actions and lead to the achievement of goals. However, these depend on the effectiveness of the decision-making process. An effective decision is free from biases, uncertainties, and is deeply dependent on information and critical thinking. Poor decisions lead to the inability to achieve set objectives and could lead to losses, if finance is a factor. Therefore, it is important to contemplate about quality and ways to achieve it in decision-making, which is the focus of this paper. The purpose is to look into the needs of decision-making, including what one should do and what one should not do.
Rational in decision making is the method which means making the decisions according to the accurate reasons and facts. In the rational decision making process, the manager will come out a lot of analysis on those relevant facts and reasons before choosing the best ones of action. Through this rational in decision making, the manager can make the decision based on the correct information without following their intuition. There had some importance of rationality in decision making (Business Dictionary, 2017).
