PMO: Implementation Recommendation
Project management (PM) is the process of applying knowledge, skills, tools and techniques in a project oriented environment. A Project Management Office (PMO) is an organizational support entity which develops project standards and metrics, methodologies, and techniques designed to help project managers effectively execute projects throughout its life cycle; based on clearly defined PM practices and governance (Hill, 2013). A PMO function can range from project oversight of a single project, to direct control of multiple projects. One reason why projects may fail is due to a project manager’s, or an organization’s, lack of understanding of the project requirements. A PMO can assist organizations by providing a knowledge management system that contributes to the PM workflow. To keep pace with today’s dynamic business environment, organizations may implement a PMO to enhance, and sustain, effective PM, with a goal of project and organizational success (Kaleshovska, 2014).

The primary focus of the assessment was to evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s current PM methods, guidelines, and tools, and determine if a PMO would enhance the organization’s PM practices. This paper provides an analysis of results on AS’s current PM operations, and a recommended approach to implement a PMO into the organization’s existing PM operating environment. In this report, I will discuss risks, deliverance and management of a real-life project and the decisions and actions of project managers and stakeholders.
Project Management is quickly becoming a field of study and importance in the business world. A search on the Internet of the title “Project Management” yields hundreds or results including forums, training manuals and job openings for related positions. Project Management is a broad term referencing the necessary steps taken by management to ensure a product is feasible before and during implementation. According to Project Management Learning Objectives, the steps to achieve success in this area include: testing and measuring products, evaluating and managing the product cycle, comparing costs and benefits, measuring product worth, economic analysis, product analysis, teambuilding and leadership, and budgeting and cost control (Project Management Outline). Project Managers oversee many different areas of the business and are responsible for project success.
Thanks to this approach the project manager is able to control the project from start till finish through the multiple evaluation and decision moments. Numerous processes are described like how to handle deviations and the various communication channels between the project members, the project and all the stakeholders.
The main philosophy of the project office is to provide the organization with a single point of enterprise project planning and control. The project office supports all levels of management by monitoring all current projects in an integrated form. It stores all relevant data and disseminates information to all the various managers involved in all projects. It is the only office that has a global view of all the corporate projects and their history.

According to Galdon, Solvensky, Smaltz (2014), a PMO is a centralized organization dedicated to improving the practice and outcomes of projects via holistic management of all projects (p. 315) . Among the various functions of a PMO; issuing regular communications to project stakeholders and the rest of the organization regarding progress or status of the projects and providing authoritative management and oversight of all projects, parallel with the similar functions of a VMO (Galndon et al., p. 328). Both PMO and VMO plays an important role in decision-making and creating excellent outcomes for their organization. They serve as a liaison between the stakeholders and rest of the organization to ensure the outcomes of the project match up to the needs of the users and the stakeholders. PMO and VMO also supervises and monitors day-to-day activities of the vendors and team members who are in charge of the project. However, it can be a challenge for a project manager to comprehend what skills they should be improved, what sections of project management knowledge that should be tried to perceive, and how to measure and enhance their performance.
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed.
