People believe that pitbulls are not safe pets to have. These three articles show pitbulls should be kept as pets. In addition, pit bulls are unfairly targeted in the media. According to James Cross, the media shows preference to dogs with better reputations while over reporting pit bulls attacks. In the media, pit bulls are represented as untrusted and horrible dogs. People report dog attacks not knowing what breed the dog is. They automatically think it’s a pit bull, as the breed takes the blame for it. Additionally, pit bulls should be treated fairly For instance, the text indicates that "all pit bulls are included in the dangerous side." It also states that when"other dogs injure or kill another dog or human, they are only labeled as vicious without harming anyone. Moreover, people discriminate pit bulls based on how they look. For example, Mr. Goodwin says that "Pit bulls are the choice for drug dealers." Just because they have gnarly teeth and an angry face does not mean they are considered vicious. Although the right to own a pit bull should be the decision the pet owner, many people are not convinced that pit bulls should be kept as pets. Most likely because of an incident involving a girl. People are very harsh and blame these dogs for a handful of things. Furthermore, Roberto Gomez states that Miami-Dade County enacted a ban of pit bulls. Due to this tragedy, peers refused to give up their pets, so they moved some place else. To conclude, these articles determined that we should keep this breed as a pet. Perhaps the reason why pit bulls are feared by society is because we are afraid of what they are associated with. Pit bulls are often thought of as a gangster’s pet, a role in violent and illegal activities. People stereotype this breed because of the unfortunate acts of few. In contrast, society needs to understand that they are being racist towards a breed of dog. Denver’s systematic killing of pit bulls could be compared to the actions of the Nazis during the Holocaust.

However, it should be noted that attacks involving pit bulls often are catastrophic and result in responses from police and paramedics and news media reporters. According to news reports studied by DogsBite.org for “the 10-year period from 2005 to 2014, pit bulls killed 203 Americans and accounted for 62% of the total recorded deaths” (DogsBite.org). All of the pit bull breeds possess powerful jaws, and Nicholas Dodman, author of Dogs Behaving Badly, reports “when they do chomp down, it can be a bloodbath” (as quoted by Rivenburg).
I believe that all people should be allowed to have any type of dog that they want. It’s just odd how people think that pit bulls are dangerous or vicious.

One reason Pit Bulls should not be banned is because they can be very helpful to humans. For example, pit bulls were once kept as hunters and guardians. Today, they are even being used as service dogs for people in need. There was also a pit bull named, Stubby, who saved his entire platoon from a poisonous gas attack. Even though pit bulls are the majority of dog attacks anybody hears about, they are loyal and caring dogs. All they want is the love and approval of their owners. They will do anything that they are told to do. Their strength, stamina, and speed fuel the passion they have for their owners. Pit bulls are not vicious by nature; they are good guard dogs fueled by the love for their family; and, they are definitely loyal friends. They have a lower temperament than many other well-known breeds; therefore, they are not vicious by nature at all. They are very strong guard dogs. It is the bad owners that give the pit bull a bad name. Contrary to that popular belief, dangerous animal behavior is the function of inherently dangerous dog owners, not inherently dangerous dogs. One fact that supports this is that pit bulls are the dogs most often shot during drug raids(TELLINGS v. Toledo). Besides the pit bulls that are owned by drug dealers for status symbols and protection, many pit bulls are owned by people that breed them for fighting. These poor dogs have a very slim chance of living a normal and happy life. This is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the owners that should not have the dog, or should care for them better. The dogs that are forced to fight and are conditioned to defend themselves or die. When these dogs get loose, everything is a threat to them and they defend themselves in the name of survival. If golden retrievers were bred and raised with the sole purpose of fighting to the death, they would be just as dangerous as pit bulls. Pit bulls, a breed of domestic dog, are victims of harsh stereotyping and unfair judgement. Many people believe the dog is naturally aggressive, but that is far from the truth. The breed does not matter, the size does not matter, and the age does not matter. The key factor on how a dog behaves, is, believe it or not, the person who raises it.
