The “White City” was a vast collection of architecture and arts that were put on display in the year 1893. The Chicago World Fair, also called the “White City”, was a major event in American history that impacted America’s culture, economic, and industry. The Chicago World Fair was held to honor Columbus’ discovery of the New World. The real reason why it was made was to proudly have back their wealth and power. Larson said, “the tower not only assured the eternal fame of its designer, Alexandre Gustave Eiffel but also offered graphic proof that France had edged out the United States for dominance in the realm of iron and steel…”(15). To accomplish this, architects led by Daniel Burnham and John Root made numerous buildings and beautiful scenery
The 1893 Chicago World’s fair, also referred to as the World’s Columbian Exposition was the last and largest fair in the 19th century. It opened May 1st of 1893 and closed on October 30th of 1893. The fair had reached over twenty-six million visitors and is the birthplace for many trends that have shaped modern America. The fair took place in 1893 to commemorate the four hundredth anniversary. While in the end the fair was extremely successful, it had many trials in the process of it construction.
Hi folks, thanks for the response to my previous blog. However, my slothful ways have caught up to me and I need to complete this blog that’s become a few weeks overdue for the Minnesota State Fair. Although, I enjoyed my time at the Minnesota State Fair, although being worn down and tired of hordes of people, I decided not to travel to the Renaissance Fair the following day. However, The Minnesota State Fair was delightful and was able to partake in the music, the culture, and the delicious food. Although my dental regimen was not on par for the toothache that started after eating those sweet delectable cookies. I will explain later in the blog, certainly read further on a few tips for the 2016 Minnesota State Fair.
1. When Columbus set out for the New World, he set out with the goal in mind that he would reach the famous Asia, in which Marco Polo inspired him to do, and make an enterprise in the Indies using spices of the area. On his travels to Asia, he veered off and never reached it. Instead, he reached the Bahamas and named it San Salvador which means "Holy Savior" in Spainish. Soon after that, he reached America in which he claimed land in the name of Spain. Columbus tried to make a colony of the land in which is claimed but failed, as was imprisoned for his poor leadership.
I was able to attend a fair on September 15 at the city of Bell Gardens. The fair was created to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day, which in Spanish is called Dia de la Independencia de Mexico. On September 15, they celebrate El Grito de Mexico. This event is celebrated every year, to remind people about the day they gain their independence, which brings many individuals to do the Grito de Dolores. In this case, the mayor of the city along with her colleagues and the escoltas were present. Not only was the Mexico flag present, but also the United States flag. At first, they mayor of the city told all the individuals to stand up and remove their hats for the respect of the flags. They started with the United States national anthem, which the escolta was walking with the United States flag, while the people were told to put their right hand over there heart and then they song along with the
Washington our nation’s capital, became the home of the Washington’s Puyallup state fair, in June 1900, when a group of local businessmen, farmers and residents joined together to discuss the idea of a fair in the Puyallup Valley area. 1According to the fair.com/about-us/history/, a board of directors were formed as the governing body of the "Valley Fair", decided the purpose of the Valley Fair Association was to advance the interests of agricultural, horticultural, dairying, stock raising, mining, and manufacturing industries of the Puyallup Valley. 2 Selling shares of stock provided the capital to begin the, Puyallup Fair, it was located on a vacant lot; the dates of the first Fair were October 4-6, 1900. 3 At the time, admission to the first annual "Valley Fair" was $1 per family for all three days. Today admission prices are $12.50 for adults; $9.00 for anyone 62+, for ages 6-18 and it is free for children 5 years or younger.4 Surrounding the fair, was a 10-foot fence which acted as the first main gate. Sheds were built to house exhibits etc. with the left-over wood from building the fence.5 Inside the fair a tent was raised to protect produce, "ladies work," and livestock, horses as well as cows were tethered to a nearby fence.5 At the Fair, the most popular entertainment was horse racing, therefore the fair was built around a race track which was used from 1901-1977. 6 Parking lots were established in 1902, with the invention of the automobile, and people were travelling from all over to come to the Fair.7 At the time parking a buggy or automobile cost only 25 cent, today official fair parking s is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends.8 Also today during the Puyallup Fair a number of locals also provide private parking areas...

Imagine a time before hamburgers, hot dogs, iced tea, and cotton candy were popular. Last year marked the 100th anniversary of the 1904 World’s Fair, a celebration bringing many cultures together into the heart of what we now call Forest Park in Saint Louis, Missouri. The 1904 World’s Fair popularized new ideas and products for fair attendees. The fair was also a centennial celebration of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. During the early 1900’s, the United States was establishing itself at an imperialistic and superior nation to the rest of the world. The 1904 World’s Fair was used by the government to sway public opinion of America’s current foreign policy matters.
As a society of people with different cultures, backgrounds and ideas, progress and civilization lead to development in cultural, social and intellectual advancement. Nowadays the American Vision has altered immensely from the American Vision during the 1893 Worlds fair. Since the time of the fair races and genders that did not fit into the “ideal society” have integrated making a substantial impact on our society. The transformation our nation went through shows great progress of civil obedience that was once uncanny. Consequently, many years ensuing the conversion of the American Vision has directed our nation down a more prosperous path. Looking back, we cannot help ourselves, too wonder, what would our society have been like today if
It was the day after Christmas in 1996 when 6 year old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was murdered, she was found with a skull fracture and there was evidence of sexual molestation. The investigation is still unsolved and ongoing but it is thought that her prominence in the local pageant circuit made her an obvious target for child predators (Bio., 2011). Child beauty pageants are pageants in which the contestants are under the age of 16, many of the participants start performing when they’re as young as a few months old and continue doing pageants until adulthood. Underage beauty pageants have been around for over 50 years, and have now become a common hobby and are most commonly found in the South. While these competitions have gained popularity
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) involves dispute resolution processes and techniques that fall outside of the government judicial process. There has been moves against ADR in the past by entities of many political parties and their associates, despite this, ADR has gained inclusive acceptance among both the broad community and the legal profession in past years. In fact, many courts now entail some parties to remedy to ADR of some type, usually mediation, before allowing the parties' cases to be tried. The increasing attractiveness of ADR can be clarified by the increasing caseload of traditional courts, the perception that ADR imposes fewer costs than litigation, a preference for confidentiality, and the desire of some parties to obtain larger control over the selection of the individual or individuals who will decide their dispute.
Being the ruler of France, King Philip IV did what he thought was right and wanted to tax all the eligible people of France equally in order to pay his country’s expenses. Ladies and gentlemen, Pope Boniface VIII is guilty of not willingly paying the Church’s share of taxes to help France pay certain expenses. Conflict arose from 1294 – 1303 between Pope Boniface VIII and King Philip IV, known as Philip the Fair. King Philip’s IV desire to tax the Church to finance his wars was problematic for the papacy of Pope Boniface VIII, and other clerics. King Philip IV of France believed that everyone in France should be taxed equally in order to pay for his war with England. He thought in order to tax the people equally he needed to include taxing the clergy and their individual realms. However, Pope Boniface VIII did not agree with Philip the Fair. He thought it was an infringement against the Church and its ability to self-rule. Being in charge of the Church, Pope Boniface VIII was concerned with losing his control over the people within his realm. The decision by Philip the Fair to tax the Catholic Church in France had a direct connection with the relationship between Pope Boniface and King Philip for several more years. However, Philip the Fair had the highest power of France and was responsible for providing the people of France protection against its enemies. Being the leader of France, King Philip IV was obligated to the people of France to protect its borders, to finance his armies through taxation, and collect equally from all required citizens of France, including members of the Catholic Church located within the borders of France. I intend to prove that King Philip IV of France had a right to tax all of the people of France, in...
Everyone loves summer. They look forward all year to the gorgeous weather, no school, and the endless fun of hanging with your friends whenever you want. There are many activities to do in the summer and one of them would be attending your state or county fair. I grew up in Bettendorf, IA which is a part of the Quad Cities. In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi Valley Fair is one week towards the end of summer which draws in a large crowd. The fair is something that people anticipate all summer long and can’t wait for the arrival of fair week. With the use of pathos, the county creates billboards, advertisements, attractions, entertainment and those amazing corn dogs and lemonades that emotionally appeal to the audience. All of these actions draw the audience in and create reasons for why they would want to attend the Mississippi Valley Fair.
To remain competitive and employable in the twenty-first century workplace, society today must conform to the changing demands. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications, which we cannot even begin to see or understand.
The consistent use of information and communication technology (ICT) in modern world enables us for countless opportunities for individuals, institutions, business organisations and scientists, but it also raises difficult ethical and legal problems. In particular, ICT helped to make societies more complex and thus even harder to understand. The use of ICT has led to changes in concepts: ownership, buying and selling, right to possession, theft, justice in the distribution of resources and access rights. During the nineties, the internet has grown into all business segments resulting in a large number of questions running. It has been noted that during those time period there has been merging of computers, telecommunications, and media which is further emphasized by the emergence of new issues and strengthening old ones.
