Twenty-five years from now I will be forty-four! That is just crazy to think about. My mom was forty-four when Rebecca my youngest sibling was three. I hope when I am this age I can stay strong and keep God first. I want to still be the person to help others at work and in my community. I want to be a compassionate co-worker, employee and a friend to all. I will assume I will have children and they are in school by now. I want to pray, eat, and talk with my family together each day that I have with them. I want to build strong and healthy relationships with all my children. I hope me and my husband will always be remodels for our children and that our marriage will be focused on God. I want to be me most of all wiser, more compassionate, and more loving as I grow older. Being healthy in body and mind is the core of personal wellness. Getting to that point though is a process and it takes deliberate actions to make it happen. It requires choosing which behaviors will help and which ones won't. It requires making decisions every day that helps take a person to a better state of body and mind health.
When setting a physical fitness program to complement our physical state of health, scrutiny should also be given to the definitive outcome this can, and in most cases will have a mental fitness level as well.
Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
Keeping up a healthy lifestyle can be very difficult. Between work, school, and life in general, people barely have time to eat three meals a day. A lot of people struggle to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity in their daily routines. People forget that if they take care of themselves, it might help make their day a bit better. A healthy lifestyle is a very important part of living a better life.
The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body’s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your body’s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venus and Serena Williams.
What it means to be healthy are the ways in which you treat your body positively. This would include emotional, physical, mentally, socially and the foods you consume on a daily basis. In those aspects it would mean to keep your body in good shape, keep yourself emotionally and mentally stable, and having a good relationship with not only the people around you but with yourself. Being healthy to me does not mean that you do not have a disease because, there are people who have diseases but are healthier than some of us who do not have a disease. Being healthy means to give your body the proper nutrition it needs and not stuffing it with processed and unhealthy foods.
Knowing what each of these dimensions of wellness requires can feel overwhelming. However, one should not be discouraged because of what they lack, but look forward to the improvement we are capable of bringing to our own lives. Becoming more spiritual will always be beneficial. Anytime one can improve their relationship with God one can improve their life astronomically. Emotional wellness is possible even for those who have been through horrible experiences. Practicing emotional wellness can bring healing. Physical and nutritional wellness will lead to a longer, pleasanter life and social wellness will make that life worth living. Sharing a well life with family, friends, and God will make time on this earth an irreplaceable experience.
Health is described as physical and mental well-being and freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only superficially define the actual meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Health is a quality of life involving dynamic interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists. There are many factors that influence your health, but three major components contribute to general well-being: Self-awareness, a balanced diet and, regular physical activity.
Health, nutrition and fitness are the three interrelated areas that determine an individual's sense of happiness and well being.
Spiritual health is the one that gather me through life. Spiritual health helps me to overcome obstacles in life. I take my religion every seriously, I pray five times a day and belief in high power. Spiritual health helps me with my self-esteem and decreases my anxiety. I scored moderate in intellectual, professional, emotional, and social health. Mental and emotional health is a state of well-being in which the individual understand how to cope with life stressors and make healthy decision. Therefore, I scored low in physical health. Physical health is defined as free from injuries, good body, well nourish, and adequate sleep and
According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility." It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions both individually and collectively. Not living a healthy lifestyle, can have damaging effects on both health and life, and not only yours but the people that are around you. An unhealthy lifestyle means more illness and more expenses to treat those illnesses. This means a bigger burden on an already challenged and over-budgeted healthcare system. Poor health also means more time lost at work, less quality recreational time, and shorter lifespans. Not to mention, the onset of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.
My personal health has been something I constantly think about. Whether it’s myself, my parents, my doctor, or others that bring it up, I’m reminded that I need to eat healthier or exercise more, etc. I know that I need to get better about what I eat and try to work more exercise into my daily routine, I just find it hard to find the motivation to go and actually accomplish what I know that I need to do. Especially in today’s society where we’re surrounded by a lot of non-healthy food, and getting access to healthy food is more expensive than the latter, it’s hard to make the better choice and choose the healthy option. I’m hoping now that I’m in college that I’m able to get better at taking care of myself than I have in the past.
