The burgeoning growth of soccer in our community is exciting and the 2015 Pan Am Games will bring renewed focus on the world's most popular sport right here in our own hometown.
The Games will be held in July 2015 and will take place in and around Toronto with various sports being held from St. Catharines to the west, Oshawa to the east and Barrie to the north.
Hamilton will become "soccer central" as it will host all preliminary- and medal-round games - 48 in total. There will be a significant economic infusion for our city as we expect thousands of fans from southern Ontario in addition to the teams and their entourages from around the Americas.

This will be a very important boost to our downtown revitalization as we continue to build economic development opportunities for our city. If Hamilton executes the plan well, we can then expect a higher portion of other international sporting events to come our way.
The quality of soccer on the pitch is expected to be top-notch as many young up-and-coming stars have been traditionally featured at Pan Am competitions - including such notable players as Canada's own Christine Sinclair, Maicon Douglas Sisenando (Brazil and Manchester City), Landon Donovan (USA and LA Galaxy) and Rafael Pereira da Silva (Brazil and Manchester United).
The Pan Am Games have also been historically friendly to our women's teams. They won the Pan Am gold medal in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2011 and used that as a springboard to capture the bronze medal in London at the 2012 Olympics - a result considered one of Canada's highest all-time achievements in the sport.
