Ethics is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of a nurse’s approach in determining the right choices in aiding patient care. Morals are a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of nurses actions in decisions between right and wrong. These elements help and maintain the importance of human care in nursing (Bedin, Droz-Mendelzweig, Chappuis 2013). Care is preformed at the highest standards when the staff is sensibly educated, appropriately staffed, and progresses well through out. The nurses have to recognize support, teaching, and legal protocols in order to give the most optimum care to an individual.
Professional organizations aid in generating ideas, establishing and maintaining the trust of society, and they work proactively to uphold a healthy profession. To ensure nurses are maintaining a greater status in healthcare, professional organizations need to continue to provide education to all professional nurses, members or not, as well as to society (Matthews, 2012). Education constantly leads to new information. Education should focus on working with nursing professionals as well as legislators on how to continue to advocate for the nursing profession and to find new respects to support and strengthen healthcare. In addition, being apart of a professional organization provides opportunities for professional growth and development in the nursing profession, allowing nurses the opportunity to have a voice.
In the healthcare setting the registered nurse (RN) is required to assume a leadership position, the RN needs exhibit numerous leadership skills to effectively lead within a healthcare team. This essay will reflect and critically discuss the leadership role of the RN in ensuring quality and safe patient care, with ideas drawn for Dr Lucy Cuddihy interviews (2015). Effective communication is an essential leadership skill that is required by the RN to provide quality and safe as in the healthcare setting if communication is misconstrued it can cause irreparable damage or increase the risk of unnecessary mistakes. Important Attributes for Registered Nurse: The role of a Registered Nurse cannot be neglected in the provision of quality and safe care to patients and adopt procedures adequate for the condition of the patients because they work at the front line level; moreover, they have direct dealing with patients and integration of personal and professional skills is necessary. Therefore, there are certain attributes that are necessary to be present in a Registered Nurse for accurately performing various tasks. These include; Workload management, leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, control of practice, professional development, effective communication skills and organi zational loyalty (Daly & Carnwell 2003, pp. 158-167). These attributes hold significance in terms of obtaining positive outcome for not only the Registered Nurse but also the organization and the patient.
