Michael Jackson's Impact on Pop Culture What do you get when you add together 13 number one singles, 17 Grammy awards, and over one billion albums being sold across the globe since his first solo debut? As soon as the assignment was given and I found out it was going to be over pop culture of, course my mind went straight to the King of Pop himself... Michael Jackson. The true impact Michael had on pop culture may never be surpassed. Jackson has touched the lives of many through his music, his actions and so much more. His legacy will live forever.
Michael Jackson was the most influential artist of the 20th century. He simply had more raw talent as a performer than any of his peers. The King of Pop reigns as the century's signature artist not just because of his exceptional talent, but because he was able to package that talent in a whole new way. Michael’s music video for the music received a lot of attention. In the music video, he appears to be handcuffed in a jail cell before going to dance in the middle of the cafeteria with prisoners. The inmates begin to protest while images come onscreen portraying historic police violence, famine in Africa, human rights violations and Ku Klux Klan gatherings. The song even managed to break the controversy record previously set by “Black or White” – because this time there were two scandals at the same time.
