Abstract
Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the principles to create and construct machines and their parts. Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest disciplines. Mechanical engineering became important after the industrial revolution in the 19th century. Mechanical engineering has continued to improve with new technology making it an important and exciting career path. Mechanical engineers design, create, construct, and maintain a mechanical system. Students who want to enroll in this field should have a strong foundation in Math, Science, and Physics. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities and is expected to increase to 5% between 2014 – 2024. It is very challenging, but rewarding …show more content…

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest disciplines of engineering. Mechanical engineers look at problems to see how mechanical devices can help solve those problems. They create or recreate mechanical devices using analysis and computer-aided method. Mechanical engineers produce machines such as steam generator and engines. They design machines in building with elevators and escalators. Mechanical engineers need to acquire skills and knowledge. According to me.columbia.edu, James Hone offers insight on mechanical engineering at Columbia University, summarized the basic skills a mechanical engineer needs. He says, “He/ She needs to understand the forces and the thermal that a product, its parts, or its subsystem will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to withstand the forces of the thermal environment they will be subject to; and to determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without failure.” (par …show more content…

Mechanical engineers have begun to include computer-aided engineering programs into their current design and analysis processes, including 2D and 3D solid modeling computer-aided design. Most mechanical engineers use product lifecycle management tools to perform complex simulations. A mechanical design team can quickly and cheaply iterate the design process to develop a product that better meets cost, performance, and other constraints using the CAE programs. Mechanical engineers are constantly moving the limits of what is physically possible to produce safer, cheaper, and more efficient machines and mechanical systems. Most things that we use today that involve any moving parts come from the minds of mechanical engineers, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. Even the creation of more sophisticated electronics and technologies will depend on at least a part of mechanical engineers. That is why mechanical engineering is an interesting and important area of concentration.
Due to the increased in the duties and responsibility of mechanical engineering in the modern era, there are separate branches of specialization. Some of the most common branches of mechanical engineering where graduating students can find careers
