Simultaneously, the logistics industry attracts highly educated graduates entering this industry and its quality will be improved. The logistics industry is one of four economic pillars in Hong Kong which represents 21% of Hong Kong total employment. As the logistics industry is prosperous, many high educated and skilled labors are attracted by career opportunities. From figure 15, we can see clearly that almost 70% interviewees think that career opportunity is the most important factor to attract people to enter logistics industry. Also, according to figure 14, 90% of interviewees agree the prospect of logistics industry in Hong Kong is optimistic. Those reveal that employees are confident to work at local logistics industry and believe that they can have career opportunities to develop their talents in local logistics industry.
On the other hand, the demand of skilled labor and talents in local logistics industry is increasing rapidly because of the keen competition in Hong Kong. One of the significant factors lead to the fierce competition in local logistics industry is the trend of online shopping. As the online shopping becomes popular, the more online stores need to cooperate with logistics companies, the more competitors enter the local logistics industry. Thus, logistics companies need to improve their service quality to make competitive advantage. However, Hong Kong is facing a shortage of skilled labor and talents. Issues with performance measurement, feedback, development and remuneration will be identified. Furthermore, the issues relating to validity, reliability, fairness and cost-effectiveness in the management of both performance and remuneration will be explored.
