Establishing Communication or Language Needs, Wishes and Preferences with Special Needs Individuals.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, communication is a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behaviour . The Collins Dictionary defines it as the imparting or exchange of information, ideas, or feelings . The Business Dictionary’s definition of communication paints a bigger picture of the act, defining it as a two-way process of reaching mutual understanding, in which participants not only exchange (encode-decode) information, news, ideas and feelings, but also create and share meaning . The Liner model describes communication as a one-way act, where the speaker only speaks to the listener without roles being switched. Harold Lasswell’s 1948 model was based on this theory. The Transactional Analysis Model founded by Eric Berne, on the other hand, states that communication dynamic. This means that it communication and communication roles change in reaction to external (environment) and internal (communicator; listener and speakers can switch roles) interference.
It is important to understand the individual being communicated with. Their needs, wishes and preferences are extremely vital for effective communication to take place. To create effective communication and avoid incoming barriers, especially with special needs individual, support workers responsible must take the time to understand and work within their comfort zones. Four basic ways that can help support workers establish an individual’s communication or language needs, wishes and preferences include, but are not limited to the following;
1. Initial
Communication is exchanging of information and this can be through speaking, using some mediums or writing. As technology advances so does the mode of communication and communicating becomes easier and faster. Communicating is also a means of sending and also receiving of information and there are computers and one of the latest technological advancements skype and satellite televisions. The act of one person giving the information he is the sender while the other person is the receiver of the message. It is not a guarantee that the receiver will decode the message the right way, and this can be shown by the action the receiver takes after receiving the message. Therefore, the sender must encode the message in a way that he has to make sure that the receiver decodes it the right way. The message can be use of words, behaviour to express the information, sounds or signs and these are all to express an ideas, feelings or thoughts.
Wright et al. (2012) suggest that communication is a process that involves a sender, a receiver, a message and a channel. The sender and the receiver of the communication may be the professionals and the channels of communication may be through hand over’s, emails, phones calls, verbal discussion and other relevant communication channel

Communication involves the exchange of messages and is a process which all individuals participate in. Whether it is through spoken word, written word, non-verbal means or even silence, messages are constantly being exchanged between individuals or groups of people (Bach & Grant 2009). All behaviour has a message and communication is a process which individuals cannot avoid being involved with (Ellis et al 1995).
The Importance of Communication & nbsp; I believe that one of my strengths lies in the way I communicate and deal with children. I think that we must become active listeners in order to understand each other. During my internship with the Institute for Social Justice, I worked with inmates on research for alternative social models of punishment. In order to do the job effectively, I needed to empathize with the inmates so that I could understand their concerns and needs and remedy any self-destructive conduct they exhibit. The work also involved an all out hunt on my part to place these inmates into environments and programs that would prove healthy for them. & nbsp ; I maintained a working relationship with my friends at the Institute and checked their progress weekly. I believe that the power to empathize, or the ability to put yourself in someone else's place begins with an open mind. When I say that we must become active listeners in order to understand one another, I mean to say that there are subtle movements in our speech, certain words that we use, certain utterances that are not directed towards us, certain circumstances unrevealed to us. We must endeavor to in my studies in your department. & nbsp;

We can define communication in that way,”The transformation of ideas from sender to receiver is called communication”
The world is changing rather fast and the communicator has to keep pace with the change. However, there are certain elements in all effective communication and to communicate effectively these attributes are to be taken care of. The elements of effective communication can be discussed under several headings:
Although the communication theorist has never come up with a single definition for communication but in general it refers to ‘’ the process of creating a meaningful understanding between two or more people’’ or when we think of communication in a complex manner, it refers to a cyclial and dynamic two way process that form basis of human behavior. This behavior is related to relay information, enhance relationship or in context of organization activities it can be refered as a way to marketing, managing and decision making etc.

Communication in the workplace is very important for employees and companies and through this the company is effective and achieve its objectives. This reduces miscommunication and poor communication. Thus increasing the spirit of cooperation and commitment. Thus increasing the productivity of the organization. When the manager talks with the staff feel the value and understanding this leads to an increase in job satisfaction. Of course when you find people who have team spirit and collaborators, this helps the manager and employees feel that they have one goal to achieve.
As in all aspects of personal and professional life, having effective communication is a key element of success. Effective communication can benefit your relationships with people. By conveying your message and integrating them as a member of the team and not just a subordinate leads to better production. By effectively communicating you can clearly define job responsibilities and expectations. The better you are able to communicate the less likely organizational turnover of personnel will occur. Supervisors and leaders in the professional workplace find that the most important factor in advancement and retain ability is effective communication. Senior level executives and human resources managers are stressing the importance of communication and providing more training for mid-level management. Emphasis is placed on communication being clear by being transmitted strongly.
To be successful in any sphere, it is essential to know and understand how to communicate effectively. Particularly in the professional world, it is communication and its related skills decides person’s career curve. The better one’s communication skills, the higher are the chances to touch the zeal of success. Communication in English is making a miracle in these days.
