Herbert A. Simon said, “The choices we make lead up to actual experiences. It is one thing to decide to climb a mountain. It is quite another to be on top of it.” As we are about to graduate and go on to choose not just jobs, but careers, we need to commit to a decision. I have always been thinking of what I wanted to be since I could talk, whether it’s an actress, writer, teacher, or doctor. As graduation is approaching, I have recently chosen to follow the path into the medical field under anesthesiology. Being a doctor would be the right choice for me because I have a strong passion for helping others, the salary is sufficient, it would allow enough vacation time for travel, and I have been blessed with the determination and mind to go through medical school then on into a hospital. Ever since I was a young child running around on the playground, I have wanted nothing more than to help people. If there was ever a kid that scraped their knee or bruised an arm on the swings, I was always the first one rushing to them with Band-Aids and ice. The primary purpose of being an anesthesiologist, the field of medicine I want to go into, is to ease to pain before, during, and after care and surgery.
