It is essential that teachers know and understand this and know how to properly support their students. A socially just teachers needs to know what each individual student needs in order to succeed and do everything in their power to help them get there. Teachers need to be an advocate for their students and create an environment that is safe for them to be themselves and succeed. A highly effective teacher is someone who is great at teaching concepts from a textbook, but, more importantly, can teach life lessons. Teachers have the ability to change lives.
In order to promote a safe environment that is conducive to learning, teachers must establish classroom rules that are few but fair. It is the teacher's responsibility to enforce those rules without prejudice or without favoring one student over another. I agree with the existentialist philosophy that students should be taught to take full responsibility for their own actions. However, discipline--or any other facet of teaching, for that matter--is useless without love. It has been said that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Not only that, but it is also the job of the school and faculty to work together in order to create a safe environment where said education can best be received by the students. In the field of special education specifically, I believe that it is the job of the teacher and the school to determine what the best method of meeting the student’s needs. This means that, as a teacher, it is my responsibility and my goal to give every student the education they deserve. I also believe that I must encourage students to advocate for themselves and develop healthy learning habits. While it is important for teachers to provide for students and service them, students must also be responsible for their own learning as much as possible.
As a teacher I feel it is my responsibility to prepare my students for the inevitable changes that will occur in their lives by instilling confidence and knowledge while presenting myself as a good role model. Teachers play such an important role in a child’s life, sometimes being their only source of encouragement and support. As a teacher, I want to know my students; their personality, learning style, and academic level, so I can meet their needs and create the best learning environment possible. I will bring into the classroom my open-mindedness, my respect for others, my willingness to listen before making decisions, and my love for knowledge. I hope that by ...
As for my future, I hope to become a teacher that is respected and liked. I want to learn from my mistakes and continue to grow and learn. Right now, I do not see myself as going on to receive a masters or anything, but that could always change. The future is hard to decide on but I do know that I want to be a teacher and make a difference in at least one persons life.
Teachers that genuinely care for their students and provide good solid foundations are the reason I have chosen teaching as my profession. Unfortunately, some children are without steady home lives. Children that do not have a substantial home life yearn for solid ground. I would like to be the teacher that is a role model for inopportune children. I want to be able to provide the firm, safe background that those students aren’t able to have.
An effective teacher will know and understand the Common Core Standards. A teacher should be able to bring their own life experiences into the classroom by understanding a remembering what might have kept us from learning. Applying rewards to students as we go through the learning process. Little bonuses are a plus when working, whether you are a student or working in the real world experiences. An effective teacher needs to know the goal and how to motivate their student to the end goal.
Teaching Philosophy I believe the main purpose of teaching any subject is to encourage students to think critically and appreciate knowledge. Thinking critically is a skill students, no matter where their lives lead them, will need. A teacher should be dedicated to the content they are teaching and should love what they are doing. The fact that students are learning the subject is not enough; a teacher also has an obligation to foster an enjoyment of learning in their students and to show them how they can apply it to their own lives. Teachers should be able to show students that what they are learning in the classroom is relevant to their own lives.
Another way this will affect my decisions I will make as a teacher is be there to help the children, learn from your coworkers because they are there to help you. This will help you learn things you may have never known before and forms a close knit community within the
Although I don’t feel that you should humiliate a child in front of others, but you should be firm and consistent. I agree with Skinner where he says that reinforcement and punishment are needed in the classroom. He says to reinforce behavior good or bad right after it occurs because the child will forget about it if you try to do it later. If the child was brought up the right way, then they will respect the teacher enough to listen to what they say. As long as the student is respecting you as a teacher, then I feel you should respect them as a student.
