Humpback Whales Humpback whales are amazing mammals and they go through a lot of extraordinary things to be able to survive. There are many whales in the ocean, but the whales that are in the Hawaiian culture areas have many difficulties and most people don't understand why. Humpback whales have the scientific name of Megaptera Novaeangliae, that species of baleen whale is one of the larger species, and adults range in length from twelve to sixteen metres which is thirty to fifty-two feet. They weigh approximately seventy-nine thousand lbs (pounds), and they have a distinctive body shape. These whales get their name from the way they come up for air and show their back dorsal fin. this happens right before it starts moving its flukes, flukes are the tail fins. Lots of people first identify a whale by it flukes. (which is another name for its tail fins). they say humpback in their name but the hump they see is actually a forty-nine feet of back rolling into a sixty-thousand pound plunge into the water. “Its most likely that humpbacks sing to communicate with other whales and to attract potential mates, National Geographic,page6”. Humpback whales grow strange things on their body like hair, these large mammals have whiskers like cats and other animals.the first thing people see is the bump that the hair grows on. Scientist say that they have these to feel things like cat’s and other creatures do.Another interesting fact about this animal is that scientists found out the age of beached whales and ones that have been killed. Marine biologists can determine the age of these whales by their teeth. When they find a dead whale or kill a whale, Marine biologists can also look inside the ear and look at the different layers of ear wax ty... ... middle of paper ... ...ail fins allow whales to propel through the water if necessary. The effects of global warming affects the marine animals alot more than people might think. The sea level rises which leaves whales vulnerable, and they might not be able to adapt quickly enough to survive. As you can see Whales are in this world for a reason, every living thing has a purpose. Although we use these whales to make wax for candles to food on our table. There are isn't a lot of Humpback whales in the ocean and their population is limited due the deaths. Everyone has to take their part in the world, and make it easier to understand that we need them more than we thought. Their way of living and what they have accomplished though there time of life is extraordinary. Their migration and communication is so courageous. Humpbackwhales are what i would call a creation well worth having on earth.
