Summary of Heathers
In the 1988 film Heathers written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lahmann they try to persuade the audience that trying to be popular by way of bullying can ruin an adolescent’s life in more ways than one. The film starred several well-known actors and actresses such as Lisanne Falk (Heather McNamara), Kim Walker (Heather Chandler), Shannon Doherty (Heather Duke), Christian Slater (JD) and Winona Ryder (Veronica) and several others.
The movie Heathers takes place in a small town in Ohio and involves high school teenagers. Some of the problems teens are faced with in everyday life are included such as cliques, popularity, drugs, alcohol, smoking, bullying, lying, bulimia, depression, suicide and some that are not so conventional like violence and murder. Relationship issues with friends, parents, teachers and male, female sexuality are also included.
In the opening scenes the Heathers are talking and start to walk over to play crochet, as they get up to walk over to the crochet game they intentionally step on the flowers. Veronica is writing in her diary, “Dear Diary: Heather told me she teaches people ‘real life’. She said, real life sucks losers dry. You want to fuck with the eagles; you have to learn to fly. I said, so, you teach people how to spread their wings and fly? She said, yes. I said you’re beautiful.” Evident by the inflection in Veronica’s voice she is fed up with Heather.
One of the first scenes takes place in the cafeteria the Heathers want Veronica to write a note to put on a Martha Dunnstocks lunch tray making her think Kurt Kelly likes her. Veronica tells them “Shit, Hea...

...ants to get away from him. She pretends to hang herself and he came to her room and found her. He revealed a plan to bomb the school and everyone in it. Veronica tried to save everyone by confronting JD at the school during a pep rally. She was able to save everyone except JD, who strapped a bomb to himself and blew himself up outside the school.
In the final scene of the movie Veronica is walking down the hallway and got a ribbon that belonged to Heather Chandler from Heather Duke the current “leader” and stated “Heather my love there’s a new sheriff in town”. Veronica walked down to Martha Dunnstock and said “Hey Martha my date for the prom kinda flaked out on me, I was wondering if you weren’t doing anything that night maybe we could rent some new releases pop some popcorn”. Veronica is trying to mend her mean girl ways and befriend people she treated badly.
Both the films Heathers and Shame can be deemed to be modern day Westerns however are quite subverted. They both develop the idea that conformity leads to tragic consequences. Heathers is set in an American high school, Westerburg, in 1988 and attacks the idea of a high school hierarchy, where four girls particularly one, Heather Chandler, has the power within the school. On the arrival of a new student, Jason Dean, Veronica, one of the four girls breaks away and conforms to Jason. As a result she is led to kill Heather Chandler and later the ‘footy jocks’ to make their school a better place. Shame on the other hand is set in a small outback, Western Australian country town, Ginobrak, in 1987. It deals with the issues of a small town mentality and that ‘boys will be boys’. As result of these concepts and issues, many young girls were raped and the town accepted this. As Asta, an outsider coming into town, stumbles across these rappings’, she helps and encourages a young girl, Lizzie to face the boys and lay legal charges. In both texts it takes and outsider the ‘hero’ figure to expose the corruption and help in acting as a catalyst to change.
Racism through the years has provided places around the world with a shameful past that even today, racial reconciliation is still only in its beginning phase. Legends such as Rosa Park, Martin Luther king, and Malcolm X sacrificed their own life daily to pave a brighter future for America. However there is only so much people can do to change the ways of the world, the rest is up to the moral ethics of everyday citizens. The novel, Elizabeth and Hazel: Two Women of Little Rock, makes me question society in the past and present. If today; years after racism was said to be over, two people can not move on from their horrid past, how is the rest of the world supposed to? After April and Roger search desperately for Cheryl, they look for several weeks, and have no idea where she has gone. One night Cheryl’s friend Nancy calls April, and explains that she was leaving with her, but she had left suddenly and believes she is going to do something bad. April remembers that Cheryl told her how their mother committed suicide, by jumping off the Louis Bridge. When they arrive at the bridge a group of people say they saw a women jumped off and commit suicide about five minutes before they arrived.
Since her mom left, Ava and her dad made the decision to move when he received a new coaching job at Patterson High School. Ava would be starting her senior year in a new high school. Ava was not the typical Patterson High School girl, surprisingly was selected for the Prom Bowl, never the less wanted nothing to do with it. Cody as the senior class president chose the girls to compete and selected Ava as the wildcard. The first competition, a fashion show during homecoming, was simple enough. The girls that made the cut to the second round then competed in a talent show competition. The remaining five girls would have the option of stripping, drinking or making out with a girl for the final competition. Solstice made the choice of drinking until wasted and consequently wound up hitting her head and going to the hospital. Lena Lingard is the best example of a non-domestic central character which appears amidst the domesticity of My Ántonia. Often the sections which feature Lena instead of Ántonia are seen as confusing divergences from the plot line of a novel that purports to be about the woman named in the title. However, since Lena appears in the novel almost as often as Ántonia, and more often than any other character except Jim, she is a central character. Lena is a working woman who refuses to accept the constraints society places upon her. Even when society predicts that by becoming a dressmaker instead of marrying she will fail and become a "loose" woman, she disrupts their expectations and succeeds.
The movie “Mean Girls” is based on a real story in high school social groups. Cady Heron was a new girl in high school. She has been homeschooled in Africa for her whole life, so she wanted to learn how people in school behave and socialize. It was difficult for Cady to adjust in the new school environment. Initially, Cady had difficulties finding a friend in the school. Her first day in school, she eats her meal in the restroom until she meets Janis and Damien. They encourage Cady to be a friend with one of the most popular group at school called the “Plastic”. Every girl in school envy them and with they would be a member of the group. Regina is the head of the group, and she does anything in her power to get what she wishes, and Gretchen and Karen are her followers. Most of the girls at school are obsessed with the idea of joining Regina’s group because they are royalty in the high school. Since Cady is a pretty girl, the Plastic group was threatened by her and wanted her to join them so that they can control her and the boys who pay attention to Cady. Construction of Holmes’s World’s Fair Hotel, or better known as “The Murder Castle” in modern times, began in 1890. The building consisted of over 60 rooms and 51 oddly cut doors. We are born into this world with the realization that life is hard and that life is like a box of chocolates and it is hard to take it at face value. The majority of our time is spent trying to answer an endless stream of questions only to find the answers to be a complex path of even more questions. This film tells the story of Harold, a twenty year old lost in life and haunted by answerless questions. Harold is infatuated with death until he meets a good role model in Maude, an eighty year old woman that is obsessed with life and its avails. However, Maude does not answer all of Harold’s questions but she leads him to realize that there is a light at the end of everyone’s tunnel if you pursue it to utmost extremes by being whatever you want to be. Nevertheless, they are a highly unlikely match but they obviously help each other in many ways in the film.
Donna’s father is angry when he finds out and automatically assumes it means she’s going to have sex with many men. This example is representative of the double standard held between men and women. It wouldn’t be an issue if one of the boys had multiple partners or used birth control, but as soon as one of the females does, it is frowned upon. When Jackie hears that Donna is on the pill, she exclaims “you’re going to be so popular,” which implies women can only be well-liked if they please men. Then, Eric’s parents give him “the talk” and while Kitty mentions that foreplay is important, Red disagrees. This implies a woman’s pleasure is not important, as long as men are taken care of. While Laurie is home, Eric finds out that she is failing classes, perpetuating the “dumb blonde”
The setting of the story has tremendous impact on the characters and themes in the novel "My Antonia" by Willa Cather. Cather's delicately crafted naturalistic style is evident not only in her colorfully detailed depictions of the Nebraska frontier, but also in her characters’ relationship with the land on which they live. The common naturalist theme of man being controlled by nature appears many times throughout the novel, particularly in the chapters containing the first winter.
They build a lot of support from their surrounding friends and even though they thought that they could not depend on their parents they quickly realized that they would need them as well as outside sources such as the local police and school peers who were unknowingly involved. All of the girls stay as positive as they can as well demonstrating brave characteristics and acts. When “A” puts the girls in tough situations they immediately send out “S.O.S” text to one another and they quickly compose a plan that makes sure that everyone secrets are kept and they are being put in safe situations. Every character, even the parents, have encountered a taste of what “A” is capable of and they are aware of how dangerous “A” can be because the are constantly asking questions, inferring when the girls are acting any type of way, and ironically each parent play major roles in the community. Spencer mom is a well known lawyer, so “A” makes sure to direct Spencer into situations where she gets into trouble with the police. Emily father is away and serving the country. Andy goes back to school and talks to his basketball coach about how he feels about Rob's death and how his fiends and family feel about the accident. In addition, they discuss Andy's sentence because Andy keeps punishing himself for Rob's death. Everybody at school was crying during Rob's memorial service. Introduction To what extent did The White Rose oppose and act on their opposition of Nazi policies in Germany during World War II? Throughout World War II, hundreds of German organizations existed that opposed the Third Reich, one of which was The White Rose. A student led group, The White Rose published six leaflets that served to convince other Germans to defy the regime of Adolf Hitler. These students were persecuted and killed for their actions in Nazi Germany but are revered as heroes in modern Germany. I have always found myself interested in opposition groups, who had the courage to stand up when others would not.
