Many people argue that the health of an individual is either a personal responsibility or a social responsibility. More than 60% of adults are not physically active on a regular basis and 25% lead sedentary lives (MINKLER). These high percentages of adults that are not physically active are not following the concept of personal responsibility in health. This can lead to many health issues that include but are not limited to obesity which can develop into other serious health issues. The definition of personal responsibility is an individual’s choices and actions with regard to diet, exercise, and so forth in helping to determine his or her health status (MINKLER). Although a person’s actions and choices determine an individual’s health status, …show more content…
Not everyone is able to afford healthcare. By limiting health care to only people who have insurance, healthy individuals, and those that can afford to receive health care benefits affects a personal responsibility to one’s health. By being limited by some of the factors listed one may not seek care when needed and can result in bad consequences to one’s health. What can be done is administering a program to society that is unable to afford insurance that can help finance the health care costs. A program was created by President Barack Obama which is called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It expands healthcare coverage to 31 million uninsured Americans and provides better access to clinical prevention services by removing cost barriers (COTTRELL). An example of where this was put in place was the West Virginia’s Medicaid plan. There are two types of plans an enhanced benefits plan and a basic plan. The enhanced plan is for healthy individuals and allows more benefits while the basic does not. Both plans entail Medicaid members to sign documents of their member responsibilities and rights. By signing these documents they agree, among other things, to take their medications, keep their appointments, and avoid unnecessary emergency room visits. Patients who don’t uphold their end of the bargain will have some benefits reduced or eliminated (BISHOP). This Medicaid …show more content…

D1: I have decided to look at a 6 year old going through bereavement. Bereavement means to lose an individual very close to you. When children go through bereavement they are most likely to feel sad and upset about the person’s death. Children at a young age may not understand when a family member dies. Children may not understand bereavement. For example a 6 year old’s father been in a car crash and has died from that incident. Death is unpredictable and children can’t be prepared for a death of a family member as no one knows when someone is going to die or not. Unfortunately every child can experience bereavement even when a pet dies. It is important that we are aware that effects on the child so we can support them in the aftermath.
Millions of Americans are without health insurance in the United States due to many factors such as unemployment, the cost of insurance and insurance companies denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions. The United States does not provide health care to its citizens the way the rest of the industrialized world does. Instead of providing coverage for all it institutes market-based options, in which some receive coverage from their place of employment, another options are purchasing individual plans and some can obtain coverage through public programs like Medicaid. The United States is the only westernized industrial nation without a universal health care system.

Healthcare plays an important role in almost every person’s life at one point or another. Many times, one can get caught without, or underinsured and it can be detrimental to their livelihood. With the rising cost of healthcare, it is likely that having a national healthcare policy in place, and as an individual, being able to afford and obtain adequate health insurance has not been required until now. With the new national healthcare plan, it is required for all citizens to obtain and maintain some sort of public or private insurance policy. The rising costs can be attributed to many things. A significant reason for the astronomical cost of health care is because of the staggering amount of uninsured or underinsured individuals receiving medical attention and almost many never paying the bill. Those who do have insurance have seen a gradual increase in their premiums and deductibles to make up for this.
In general, access to healthcare describes how easily an individual can receive appropriate medical services. These include measures of access health insurance coverage, ability to see a physician and obtain needed medical attention, ease of obtaining after-hours care, and short waiting times for doctor appointments. Throughout the entire world, better healthcare access correlates to better health status and lower hospitalization rates as the whole. The United States has always tried to reach equality and justice in politics. This also applies to healthcare accessibility. The United States has gone through many reforms and reconstruction to better increase the accessibility for everyone nationally, but there are still multiple setbacks in the way of a more readily available healthcare system.
The theory used for this case study was effective, because it was able to get P to recognise that change need to occur so the support that she received would be effective. Reflecting on action the outcome of the assessment and intervention that was applied to P’s case I used supervision and to discuss concerns I had regarding this family with my PS. Supervision helped me establish my concerns and areas I required further support in application to theory in evidence based practice ‘blind self’.

Understanding U.S. healthcare history will help you understand the dynamics that built the system that, we struggle with today. Furthermore, I will make conclusions on the current problems we are facing.
Most government officials see obesity as a public health issue and provide a quick fix. However, obesity is a personal issue which can be improved through education and the incorporation of personal responsibility. Radley Balko, a policy analyst and a columnist for Fox News, wrote the article, “Are You Responsible for Your Own Weight?” This article supports the argument for a change in the government’s involvement combating obesity. “Instead of intervening in the array of food options available to Americans, our government ought to be working to foster a personal sense of responsibility for our health and well-being (Balko 113). In other words, the government needs to be focusing on an individuals personal responsibility for their own weight, rather than creating proposals. The proposals enforced by the government restricts our choice to pick what we eat when instead they could come at the issue through educating a personal responsibility aspect. In addition, many people blame fast food corporation for rising obesity rates, but it is more a collective issue. Pierce Hollingsworth, vice president of Custom Media at Stagnito Media a publishing company focusing on the food and packing industry, wrote the article “The Food Industry Is Not to Blame for Obesity.” Hollingsworth said, “Making the food industry into villains over-simplifies a very complicated problem and deflects blame from parents and schools, who should be teaching children the values of physical activity and personal responsibility”(Hollingsworth 28). This means that both parents and schools are needed to foster this personal responsibility into students. Just as parents and schools are implementing this idea the government should support this sense of responsibility to combat obesity. Personal responsibility
I believe the most significant moment in the history of British welfare was the birth of National Health Service. The purpose of this essay is to outline the history of the National Health Service and why it was introduced into the everyday lives of the British people. As the National Health Service is a major factor of the welfare given to the people of Britain, we must look at the early years of the Welfare laws and acts passed down through the centuries, which eventually lead to the creation of the NHS. In addition to explore how social policy had an impact on the NHS, the essay will tread the discussion in the context of some of the economic, political and social concepts that influences the development of social policy in the NHS. Health insurance is available from several sources. Private health insurance is provided by private companies. Subscribers pay health insurance companies a monthly fee for health insurance. In return, the company agrees to pay the doctor and hospital costs if the subscriber gets sick. There are different levels of coverage that a subscriber can purchase, but the cost of a health insurance policy is also set by the amount of risk the subscriber is willing to take. The more expense the subscriber is willing to pay, as either deductible or co-payment, the less the insurance company will charge for the insurance. Some Americans purchase their own health insurance, but most employers pay for the health insurance of its workers. Often this insurance

To begin with, we have to identify what exactly means for the words “public health”. In general, we usually divided into two different areas. Public health which refers to the health of the environment surrounding in public, such as public transport and public infrastructure. Another explanation of public health means to prevent disease produced by different channels and methods, which also is the most common meaning and what I will mainly working for this paper about public health. First of all, when people mentioned about public health, United States and Japan would be the first two countries to compare with. Because the United States and Japan are basically two of the countries that everybody thinks of the most robust public health system.
The concept of health introduces multiple complexities further deepening the meaning of what it is to be healthy. The definition of health is arbitrary and can differ from individual to individual. Otherwise, my basic perception of health is experienced through the things I learned at school and from the people around me. Growing up, I was taught practices such as coughing into my sleeve and washing my hands to prevent the spread of germs. What I always understood about health is just to simply avoid sickness. However, my perspective gradually changed as I experience events involving my well-being and those around me. I began to realize that health has a plethora of definitions which helped create my own idea of that concept. Health, to me,
