Hydraulic Fracturing
What is Hydraulic Fracturing or as some refer to as Fracking? Hydraulic Fracturing or Fracking is a method of mining. The process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at high pressure in order to crack shale rocks and release trapped natural gas from the ground. Fracking was first used in 1947, at the Hugoton field in southwestern Kansas. Stanolind Oil (AMOCO) was the company that conducted the experimental fracking method. Floyd Farris, who works for AMOCO, is the person who preformed studies of the pressure of injecting water and certain chemicals into oil and gas wells; the process of fracking was introduced. Fracking can produce a lot of energy, but it also has the potential to harm the environment. One question that is asked is “Will Fracking affect our water that we drink and change our lifestyle?” America could become independent on energy if there is more fracking. Independence on gas and oil would help all of our country.
Thirty-seven percent of the energy used in the United States comes from oil. Natural gas comes in at second, contributes twenty five percent of the energy. Coal gives us twenty one percent of our energy while the other seventeen percent comes from other energy sources. Those other resources include nuclear, wind, and mostly solar. Besides the environmental harm that some people think fracking has, it has the potential to produce more natural gas and oil. It also is a non-renewable resource and will take a very long time for it to come back because of the earth’s natural creation. Solar and wind power are renewable, but do not produce enough energy to run our country. All of the solar panels and wind mills we have on the earth right now could ...

... The Middle East has about 1,000,000,000,000 barrels of oil equivalent. Right now, the leaders in hydrocarbon energy are Russia, Saudi Arabia, and then the United States.
Even though the United States is producing large amounts of oil and gas, we as a country can continue to produce more in order to help energy stability. The dangers of fracking could outweigh the benefits of being a leader in natural gas. We do not know all of the dangers in the fracking fluid. Hydrocarbon resources will run out eventually, and it is estimated that if we start to frack, we will be a global leader. In one hundred years, the oil and natural gas will run out. Hydrofracking is a process that will change the United States and our energy needs for many years. Fracking can help us become an independent country in natural gas and oil. It can bring energy stability to the United States.
