Over the years, there has been an increasing trend of migration in the world. People migrate can be due to many reasons such as war, economic benefits and ethnicity discriminations. In addition, globalisation has lead to improvement in technology which in turn made migration easier for people. In this case, migration is defined as the movement of people from one place to another either within the country or across the borders to settle down there semi-permanently or permanently. Forced migration means that people moved to another country involuntarily. The focus of this essay is to discuss on the issue of forced migration as a result of war, specifically in Afghanistan. Some may afford to have their own shelter in the country while others may be living in refugees camps. With different culture, language and harsher living conditions, these had already made their survival difficult. Furthermore, there is a large possibility that these migrants faced discrimination from the locals as the locals might feel that these migrants are using their own resources. One example will be the war in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is one country that experiences 34 years of internal war and terrorism (Rashid, 2013). As a result of the war, there are millions living as refugees in other countries and thousands applying for asylum in Europe, North America, and Oceania (Torres, 2005). In Pakistan, the Afghan refugees are faced with severe discriminations as " millions of Afghan refugees in Pakistan fear attempts to force them from homes in which some have lived for more than 30 years. They say they have dealt with discrimination and harassment at the hand of Pakistani authorities, who no longer "find them useful", and are anxious for them to face mass deportations before official residency permits expire at the end of this year. The Great Migration started in 1910 and continued through 1930. It was a period in time which saw 1.6 million African Americans relocate from the southern states to the northern states(AAME). There are four main which contributed to this occurring. The first was better and more skilled job opportunities available in the north. Many blacks were not allowed to work or hold high paying jobs in the South. The second was the oppression of African Americans in the South. They were treated very poorly and were often victims of racism and crime at a much higher rate than in the Northern states. The third was they wanted to have the right to vote. During 1910-1970 the great migration was taking place, which was the movement of southern African American’s to the north/northern cities. The great migration was an event that seemed as if it was unstoppable and that it was going to happen. In the South African American’s faced racial discrimination, sharecropping, bad working conditions, low wages, racial segregation and political detriments. This is all supported by documents 1-4. The great migration was an event which helped improve the conditions for African Americans in America.

Before the 1920’s American had an ‘open door’ policy and many people from around the world travelled there to fight poverty and experience the American dream. However then America introduced two immigration laws in 1921 and 1924 which restricted immigrants from Southern, Central and Western European countries such as Italy and Russia. Fear of communism explains the changes in American policy toward immigration in the 1920’s to a certain extent. However factors such as Isolationism, Prejudice and Racism, Social Fears, the Effects of WW1 and Economic fears were also important.
The Great Migration was a huge rural movement that occur in the southern United States, it was the movement of 6 million blacks. It began in the earlier 1900 all the way the 1970. The 14 states the blacks were moving from were from the south. The main states were Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. The first big movement was between the 1910 and 1930s. There was around a little bit over 1.5 million people moving from rural areas to the industrial cities in the north.
For centuries, migrating has been a life changing decision for people that choose to enter the United States in search of a better future. Immigration is the movement from one location to another to live there permanently. This topic has been usually been associated with sociology to better explain how it affects people, cultures and societies. Sociology has three forms of thinking that are used to describe and analyze this topic. There are three forms of thinking that are used to tell and describe immigration to society; structural functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and conflict theory. Each of these theories uses different forms of thinking and rationality to describe and explain socio topics.
Around War World II, a great population of working males in the north had to leave for war leaving an empty working market. African Americans in the south took this as an opportunity to escape their oppression. As a result, the Second Great Migration occurred, where thousands of black citizens took their families to the north to fill in the gaps where the working white males had left. In their relocation they faced systematic racism that still influences the way the modern-day inner city functions.
Immigration has always been a large conflict people have faced all across the world. There are plenty of reasons why people migrate to a country, whether it may be the United States or any other particular one. Many people often come in an attempt to escape poverty, crime, or to simply have a better opportunity to better their lifestyle. Although there are people who migrate and commit severe crimes, there are others who sacrifice themselves in order to live a better life. In the past ten years the Afghan Government has been dealing with a number of issues that have caused problems for the country, problems such as illegal drug trade, terrorism and violence. But nowadays they are fighting a problem that has long existed between people, and quite recently has taken a whole new aspect to it. Ethnic conflict is the destructive factor that has caused problems between people for generations, often leading to fights, outbreak of violence and grudge between different ethnicities.
