Firstly, at the international level, women rights are mainly protected under Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948. It emphasizes that both men and women have equal rights. In accordance with Article 23(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948, it also has clearly stated that every person has the right to work, has the right to choose the work they prefer, to get fair treatment in the workplace and van get protection against unemployment. It means regardless of the gender, everyone will be paid with the same amount of salaries if they are working the same job. This provision is provided under Article 10 of the Declaration on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women. One of the countries that practice this concept is Canada. Pay equality in Canada is guaranteed under the Canadian Human Rights Act. All the workers will be paid with same remuneration, but it might be different due to the seniority or merit system. This usually applies in industries, like banks, broadcasters and airlines. Gender pay gap is one of the common issues which often being debated all over the world. It brings the meaning of income difference between the men and women. Another example is that in United States, the Equal Pay Act 1963 has been enforced in order to overcome the problem of this gender pay gap. Equal Pay Act ensures every employee, who work within the same organization and same jobs, gains same remuneration.
