A growing trend in the United States is the use of an electronic cigarette as an alternative to regular cigarettes. An electronic cigarette burns a liquid solution containing a controlled percentage of nicotine with no carcinogens, and this provides the user with smoke that is actually vapor. According to Allen Mask M.D. (2014), “Sales of electronic cigarettes have boomed from $500 million in 2012 to $1.5 billion in 2013” (Mask, 2014). The growth of sales in electronic cigarettes over the years is because it is being marketed as a healthier alternative, and more stores are opening to help assist others on selling as well as fixing their devices. The reason why electronic cigarettes are a healthier alternative than regular cigarettes is that cigarettes are the leading causes of preventable death in America, because electronic cigarettes produce vapor not smoke, and it has helped people quit.
E-cigs are less harmful than regular cigarettes. They mimic the sensations of traditional cigarettes but do not burn or create tobacco smoke or ashes. Nor do they contain tar, the main cause of cancer in smokers”. e cigs bring lots of health advantages to smokers they are less harmful for smokers. For example, E-cigs can help regular smokers cut down on smoking cigarettes. Regular smokers can smoke spend less on cigarettes and incest in having an E-cig. Some might say they are cheaper than spending more than 20 dollars or more on three boxes of cigarettes. They think that is is beneficial for smoker who are having hard time trying to quit smoking and this could be an alternative for them instead having to quit. E-cigs have a tremendous untapped potential to positively change the lives of adult smokers of traditional cigarettes. They are more accessible to kids under 18 and they can be very dangerous if you don’t know how
...an be seen that they are a useful cessation technique- as stated previously 55% of people use e-cigarettes to quit. More research is needed into e-cigarettes to see if they are viable way to effectively stop smoking. There is a gap in research of long term effects of e-cigarettes due to e-cigarettes only being developed in 2004 4. Due to e-cigarettes only gaining popularity recently, few reliable studies with enough participants were able to be meta-analysed. It is also hard to give a reliable conclusion for this topic as there are different brands of e-cigarettes each containing varying concentrations of nicotine which wont change until they are regulated as medicinal products. At the moment the studies suggest that e-cigarettes are no better than other NRT’s. E-cigarettes could be a viable, useful and cost effective way to help reduce smoking- if they are regulated
For those who smoke cigarettes and will continue to do so, making a switch to smoking e-cigarettes would be a safer alternative. Goniewicz is a cancer researcher in the Department of Health Behavior at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York (Reuters, 2014). He and his colleagues conducted two studies of secondhand smoke exposure to e-cigarette vapors in a laboratory and the results were published in Nicotine and Tobacco Research (Reuters, 2014). In the first study they had an electronic machine that generated the vapors in an enclosed space and then they proceeded to measure the amount of nicotine and other potentially harmful gasses and particle that were in the air along with carbon monoxide that was generated. In the second study they used five men who smoked cigarettes on a regular basis and also smoked e-cigarettes. Each man entered a room and smoked his usual...
...n over 400 ingredients and can create over 4000 chemicals when they are lit. Additionally, some of the chemicals found in the devices that are claimed to be dangerous are found in other foods and products that are being consumed. Proponents of the electronic cigarettes claim argue that the potential benefit they have should be enough to keep the devices from being completely prohibited. In response to the counterarguments, proponents argue that the fact that the devices have shown to increase smoking reduction and abstinence makes them a valuable tool in decreasing tobacco related illnesses and mortality. Because I am arguing that although electronic cigarettes should be more tightly regulated, they should be cautiously implemented as a means to reduce tobacco usage, I will use more research findings to refute the counterarguments and evidence to support their use.
Thesis statement: Research suggest that electronic cigarettes, while less harmful than conventional cigarettes, have significant health risk and safety concerns.
Opposition to e-cigarettes. Despite e-cigarettes’ growing popularity in the U.S., many people, particularly health advocates do not support the sale and consumption of e-cigarettes in public. Many health advocates argued that e-cigarettes are neither safer nor healthier alternatives to conventional tobacco cigarettes. According to American Heart Association (2000), “There is no such thing as a safer cigarette”. Food Department Administration (FDA) analysis showed that e-cigarettes, which were extensively promoted as safer alternatives to traditional tobacco, are in fact just as hazardous or even more detrimental to health. FDA found that e-cigarettes contain some of the same toxic substances and carcinogens present in traditional tobacco cigarettes (FDA, 2009 as cited by Kuehn, 2009). Some of the leading brand e-cigarettes, such as NJoy and Smoking Everywhere contain detectable level of tobacco-specific carcinogen, nitrosamines. Furthermore, e-cigarettes by Smoking Everywhere were found to contain diethlyene glycol, a common ingredient in automotive antifreeze and break fluid ...
There is a new trend hitting the market known as e-cigarettes, or “vaping.” Many people believe that e-cigarettes are better than traditional cigarettes, but research shows just how unhealthy and harmful e-cigarettes are for everyone. The FDA has not yet decided if e-cigarettes should be regulated like tobacco products. E-cigarettes are marketed to help people quit smoking and live a healthier nonsmoking life. E-cigarettes are meant to help break the habit of smoking, but why are there so many “toxic chemicals” (Gilger) in the vapor? Is this new invention to help people quit smoking or just another way for tobacco companies to get richer?
Almost everyone knows the health risks involved with smoking tobacco. Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) give habitual smokers the most promising results of tobacco reduction or cessation. There are some that disagree with the use of e-cigarettes however; the benefits are exceptional for those looking to quit this habit. It significantly lowers their health risks related with smoking tobacco and, unlike cigarettes, it does not release any harmful toxic chemical substances. E-cigarettes are also more cost efficient than buying a pack of cigarettes. Although there are some that oppose the use of the economical e-cigarettes, the advantages are greater because
The symptoms of a person who decides to stop using e-cigs are similar to those trying to quit smoking actual cigarettes. According to an article “Handling Withdrawal Symptoms & Triggers When You Decide to Quit”, the symptoms of a person who quits smoking actual cigarettes which contain tobacco and nicotine, are weight gain, nicotine cravings, depression, anxiety, anger, frustration, and irritability (National Cancer Institute). In “E-Cigarettes: Health and Safety Issue,” the symptoms of a person who quits smoking the electronic cigarette, which contains nicotine, are “When you stop using it, you can get withdrawal symptoms including feeling irritable, depressed, restless and anxious. It can be dangerous for people with heart problems. It may also harm your arteries over time” (Griffin). Like cigarette advertisements trying to sell their products, the e-cig ads convince smokers that their item is a better
One of the biggest problems with society today is children and young adults are turning to electronic cigarettes for a source to nicotine. It is understood that some people might think that electronic cigarettes are better for people but here is why they are not. Electronic cigarettes have the same consequences as normal cigarettes with very few differences, such as in electronic cigarettes there is no tobacco and there is no carbon monoxide. Some might not know what is really in electronic cigarettes. Many people don’t know that there are over seven thousand chemicals and cartridges in these devices. Smoking electronic cigarettes has the same effects as normal cigarettes; they as well have been known to cause cancer and other diseases. Here is why electronic cigarettes are just as bad for the human body as
Around the world it is known that tobacco products can be harmful to your body. Globally, tobacco is the leading cause of certain cancers and heart diseases. Some people may not realize that the ingredients in a cigarette are not only harming their heart, but also their mouth. Cancers can first be detected in the oral cavity since it is the spot that cigarette smoke hits first. Although smoking and tobacco use has gone down in the past years people find that it is very hard to quit. Because of this, they turn to electronic cigarettes. But what if these “e-cigs” are just as harmful to the mouth as a normal cigarette?
Some advertisers say that e-cigarettes are a great way to help stop smoking. Advertisers claim that vaping is harmless because you are only inhaling harmless water vapor. (“Vaping vs Smoking”) You are given the option to lower your nicotine amount each time, unlike cigarettes. However recent studies have shown that this is not the case. There is still the ingredient nicotine in the e-cigarette no matter how low the amount is. (Arnold) Nicotine is
Most recently, a new form of a cigarette has been introduced to the market. The electronic cigarette or the e-cigarette is a new sensation form of a cigarette. E-cigarette is an electrical device that produces an inhaled mist which excites the tobacco smoking act. E-cigarette has the physical sensation, outlook, and the flavor of a tobacco cigarette. The nicotine content is also believed to equal that of a tobacco cigarette. In order to va...
