Essay On Derek Jeter

On June 26th 1974, in Pequannock, New Jersey, Derek Sanderson Jeter was born. His parents were Charles Jeter and Dorothy Connors. His parents had a rare relationship for their time. Charles was african american and Dorothy was white. In the 1960s marriage of separate races was frowned upon but they loved each other and made it work. When Derek was still a small child, Charles moved the family to Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is where practically Dereks whole childhood took place.
Even as a child Derek loved baseball. He and his dad would often throw in the baseball field behind his house almost everyday. Although his dad sounds like a great role model for him, his Grandma Dot and Grandpa Bill were the most important people in his childhood. They were his moms parents. He would go visit them in New Jersey for weeks at a time. His Grandma would tell him stories about the best Yankee players and basically plant dreams in his head. At night he would watch the Yankee’s play with his Grandpa Bill and fall asleep in his lap. As soon as he woke up in the morning(which was ussualy pretty early) he would go into to his Grandma and say “Come on Gram! Lets go throw!”. They went through this routine every morning.
On one visit Derek took to his grandparents house (he was about six) Dot took him to his first Yankee’s game. This is where he really started to dream. He wanted to play shortstop for his favorite team, the New York Yankee’s. When Derek got home from his trip he told his parents about his dream of being on the Yankee’s. His parents took him very seriously. His dad told him that “if you are dedicated and you work hard all of your dreams will come true”. Derek never forgot these words.

...igit numbers to players they expect to be great. Derek got number 2. His debut was the first game of the upcoming season. He impressed the Yankee’s with his phenomenal performance in his first season. He batted .314 with 10 home runs and 78 RBIs his first season.
Since then he has led his team to five world series titles and become the team captain. He is known for his good looks and quiet confidence. He is still playing shortstop for the Yankee’s today and never stops improving. More world series titles are seen in his future.
I picked Derek Jeter as my person for a lot of different reasons. One of them is that I feel like I can connect with him. I love baseball just as much as he did. I admire him in how humble he is. Even with all of his world series rings, he never gets cocky. Derek Jeter taught me that no dream is too big if you work hard and are determined.
