The artist I've chosen to discuss in this paper is the band Daft Punk. Daft Punk consists of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo who became friends 1987 in secondary school, and are from Paris, France. The band formed in 1992 under the name “Darlin'” with a third member, Laurent Brancowitz, who later left the group and formed the band Phoenix. Daft Punk was a large part in the growing popularity of the “house” genre of music in France in the late 1990's.
They've produced five studio albums as well as the soundtrack for the film “Tron: Legacy” and have had multiple number 1 hits and are still currently together. The band is well known for their odd and mysterious behavior and always appear in concert or photographs wearing their signature robot helmets. They also never speak and try their best to stay out of the public eye. This is done so that the focus is on their music and not on them as individuals. ... a fan. This is only because while I do like dance music and other related genres it's not what I listen to most often. Daft Punk has a style all their own and I have multiple fond memories of their music, specifically their album Discovery. Their music is unique and fun and just makes people want to dance, I usually don't even pay attention to the lyrics, I'm too busy enjoying the beat and really feeling the music.
Really, I can't think of anything I don't like about the band, and I know a lot of people who feel the same way. I think this is because of the distance that's placed between the band and their music. With other artists their personalities can sometimes affect how you feel about their music, Daft Punk avoids this by completely obscuring themselves behind their masks and in a way becoming what they portray themselves as, just machines pumping out music.
