Challenges in Content Creation In order to understand the challenges associated with an e-learning environment it is important to define what the term e-learning means. Wikipedia defines eLearning as “E-learning (or eLearning) is the use of electronic media and information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. E-learning is broadly inclusive of all forms of educational technology in learning and teaching. E-learning is inclusive of, and is broadly synonymous with multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL),computer-based instruction (CBI), computer managed instruction, computer-based training (CBT), computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also called learning platforms), m-learning, and digital educational collaboration.” Once the learner is on board with the eLearning implementation, the content of the course takes center stage. Where to start from- Course design and objectives: One of biggest challenge in Content Creation is to know at what point to start and at what point to end it. Starting too early or finishing too late may result in including irrelevant or too much information. Sometimes, in process of content creation we can skip important details, issues, functions, or interactions and create holes in the story. A well-designed course will impart its information clearly and effectively, while a poorly-designed program will be hard to use and understand. How much need to be there- The dilemma of too little or too much: Another important aspect of Content Creation is the amount of information that needs to be shared. Content creation is creative and time consuming process, one is not able to cover the whole concept because of limited time. Or worse the important part is left out and there is lot of unnecessary content that is not required. Dealing with multiple rounds of changes: Content creation is a complex process and changes during development are expected. But these cannot go on for an unprecedented amount of time that it starts to affect the timelines and ultimately, budgets. Basics like client preferences in language-usage, topic coverage should be captured in the initial analysis phase itself, so that rework on textual content or layout can be avoided at later stage. The main roadblock, though, is when content fails to give clear directions of the subject covered.
