Human cloning is extremely polemical, because scientists are buying human embryos from women. Human embryos are multicellular diploid eukaryote in its earliest stage of development. Scientists clone these human embryos to produce embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are specialized cells like nerve or heart cells in the lab. These kind cells can be studied in better detail to understand more about the causes and development of diseases. By cloning different cells, scientists are able to create organs for those who need it.
Specifically there are three types of artificial cloning, gene cloning, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. Therapeutic cloning is the cloning that is mostly used for organ cloning. The only proper use of cloning would be organ cloning. It would be helpful for scientists to clone and replace organs that are not properly functioning. Therapeutic Cloning is the type of cloning that some scientists hope will be successful for organ cloning. This cloning is done by extracting DNA, and inserting it into the donor’s egg. Once the egg has the DNA, an organ begins to grow. This cloning opens the discovery of diseases such as Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a disease caused by at least three species of bacteria. This disease is usually found in the United States. Organ cloning is also effective to replace failed organs. Patients, who have failed organs, are test subjects for the replacement of organs. Organ cloning or therapeutic cloning is beneficial because of the creation of pluripotent cells. These cells can potentially treat diseases in anybody or organs. From taking and cloning cells, scientists have been able to repair patient’s organs that aren’t healing as fast. Taking cells from a human is not as dangerous as taking an egg or embryo. ”The Newcastle University team took eggs from 11 women, removed the genetic material and replaced it with DNA from embryonic stem cells” (Thompson). Every egg from this test failed to advance scientists in this experiment.
In conclusion, scientists are not advanced in technology enough to experiment on and destroy human embryos. There are multiple factors that contribute to why human cloning isn’t moral and unethical. Religion and unreliable funding are a part of the many reasons why human cloning is unmoral. Therefore human cloning needs to be banned in the United States.
