Marina City Council Meetings occur every first and third Tuesday of the month, I attended one of the city’s council meetings on October 4, 2016. My intended government meeting was the Board of Directors Meeting for the Monterey Peninsula Management District on October 17, however, due to time restraints I resorted in attending the City Council Meeting in Marina. The meeting was held in Marina’s City Council Chambers that included a closed session at 5:30pm and an open session at 6:30 pm. The City Council was present in both closed and open sessions. The council included: Gail Morton, David Brown, City Manager Layne Long, Assistant City Attorney Robert Rathe, and Mayor/Chair Bruce Delgado. The open session first began by reporting any actions taken in the closed session. I did not note the summary report from the closed session, the mayor went through it hastily. It was then followed by the recognition of Restorative Justice Week and recreational events. Recreational events mentioned were: Veterans Appreciation, Firefighter Memorial, Marina Youth Arts, and an Open House on Fire Prevention. The session the moved to announcements from the floor, any member of the Public or the City Council is able to make announcements and comments that are of interest to the Public or Council. I found this to be interesting as any member of the public or the City Council is able to speak up to 4 minutes, most cities allots two minutes. People took the opportunity to express their thoughts on Measures: E, U, V, and X. The majority of the floor discussion was spent on members of the Public disputing over the ordinance of mayor election signs. Some of which were appalled by Bruce Delgado’s actions towards the other candidate’s signage, accusing the mayor of taking down signs and asking for apologies. Two individuals in particular were Katy Murchant and Kevin Saunders. Both essentially accused the current mayor of taking down signs and filed police reports against the mayor; along with an apology from the council. Then other individuals began

Judd & Todd Swanstrom covers the rise of "Reform Politics" with many local governments during the first half of the 1900s as a way to combat the entrenched political machines that took control of many large city governments in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Over the course of the chapter, Judd & Swanstrom quickly cover the history of the "reform movement" with different examples of how the reform movement affected city politics in different areas.

Therefore, this article suggests a communicative solution based upon impression management. According to Abz Sharma and David Grant, impression management involves four phases; framing, scripting, staging, and performing (Sharma & Grant, 2011). Implicit within this framework is the view of management as a communicative relationship between people within the organization. Leaders are actors who perform in front of their employees (audience). What follows is an explication of the four phases of impression management and their application to Carole’s circumstance. To begin Katherine Miller defines framing as, “ a way of managing meaning in which one or more aspects of the subject at hand are selected or highlighted over other aspects” (Miller, 2015). The leader is dictating how the organization views events that occur within the organization. Carole must do this in the situation she finds herself. Carol’s next step should be to contact all those involved within the previous meeting and attempt to setup a “town-hall”. Rather than viewing the “state of the school” incident as contentious, she can frame it as an opportunity to create meaningful dialogue. This is an appropriate next step because, currently, the staff may view the event as a last straw; an occurrence that completely undermined Carol’s authority. However, if Carole frames it correctly, it becomes an opportunity to regain control. Following framing is the act of scripting. Scripting, as told by Sharma and Grant, “identifies the actors, the use of rhetorical devices (dialogue), as well as the physical and emotional cues that supply meaning to the communication event” (Sharma & Grant, 2011). While watching the Uniondale School Board of Education meeting this was something very interesting. The people that attended this meeting where the school board members, the superintendent, the student member, business affairs and people from the local community. The people the present was the student member, two school board members and a couple people from the community. ...evision. I feel there are several simple things could be done that would make the meeting more accessible to not only first time attendees but also citizens in general. First of all by giving a very brief introduction to who the Council members are and why they are on the Council, as well as the who the people on the side bars are and what their purpose for being there. Just a brief background, five minutes at the tops, would give a background enough for newcomers to have a basic understanding of what is going on. Another thing that could be done to make it more accessible would be to explain the purpose of the meeting or to give out an agenda at the beginning. By attending this public meeting, I was able to see that the grandeur that is portrayed on television is very fake, but the importance is vastly downplayed.

That seems quite a feat but the huge space that the park offers was able to accommodate around 980,000 attendees during Garth Brooks’ concert in 1997.
From this Community Police Consortium, the BJA put together a report titled Understanding Community Policing, A Framework for Action, which focused on developing a conceptual framework for community policing and assisting agencies in implementing community policing. The basis for this consortium was much more direct than the previous efforts set forth by Presidential Commissions during the 1960’s and 1970’s, and led to what became known as the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS, Title 1 of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994). The core components outlined in the BJA report listed the two complementary core components to community policing: community partnership and problem solving. The report further stated that effective community policing depends on positive contact between patrol officers and community members, establishing and maintaining mutual trust as the primary goal of a community partnership, and police and community must join together to encourage and preserve peace and prosperity. While these are just a few of the recommendations listed in the report, there were many more that set forth the framework for community policing, but these were the core components.

The beauty can be physical, such as enjoyable parks, streetscapes, architectural facades, the sky fragment through freeways and trees; or it can be the beauty of livelihood, people, and history. I am going into event planning, in the sector of the hospitality industry. Event planning industry is on the rise and is not glued to one specific genre, hence, there are several to choose from. Event planning is needed for all sorts of occasions such as, birthday parties, weddings, fundraisers, product launches, concerts, anniversaries, fashion shows, conferences, graduations, business meetings, and much more! It is an industry that will never stop growing and improving.
