There are many tourist attractions in Washington D.C, but there is one in particular that is special, The U.S. Botanic Gardens. It is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America and its exterior has not really changed over time. It is home to almost 10,000 living specimens, some of them 165 years old. The U.S. Botanic Garden is a beautiful tourist attraction where people can experience plants and become one with nature. It informs visitors about the importance and irreplaceable value of plants.
The Botanic Garden is currently located on 100 Maryland Avenue SW, District of Columbia. The Botanic Garden is composed of three parts: the Conservatory, the National Garden, and Bartholdi Park. Bartholdi Park is located across the street from the main building, which includes the Conservatory and National Garden. Each part has an important exhibit that makes them special.
The U.S. Botanic Garden would not be here today without the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Arts and Sciences. The Institute proposed the creation of a botanic garden in 1816, to grow and collect plants from all over the world. Even though the Colombian Institute thought of it, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison made it happen. In 1820, they dreamed of establishing a national botanic garden in the National Mall. After a few meetings discussing the production of The Botanic Garden, they decided to stop because the project was not developed enough. In 1842, the idea of The Botanic Garden was reestablished when the United States Exploration Expedition to the South Seas brought back a few living plants to Washington D.C.
